BABCOCK, Evie (née d’Entremont)

March 14, 1933 — August 31, 2023

Born in Meteghan, Nova Scotia in 1933 to parents Gertrude and Désiré d’Entremont, Evie passed away at age 90 in Kelowna, BC.

She is survived and will be forever missed by her loving husband Larry, whom she married in 1957. They lived in many wonderful communities including Sydney and Halifax in Nova Scotia, Toronto, and Ottawa in Ontario, and retired in Kelowna, BC.

She is survived by her favourite sister Phyllis from Vancouver and brother Vic (predeceased wife Olive) in Moncton. She was predeceased by her brother Paul (Jean). She was loved deeply by her nieces and nephews whom she always connected with, Lisa, Andrea (Randy), Neil (Colleen), Marc (Petra), Colette (Thane), Michelle (Marc) along with many more great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Evie had a career of over 30 years with the Bank of Nova Scotia, where her clients and colleagues valued her organized, caring personality. She and Larry travelled the globe throughout their lives. Evie had an active life and loved skiing, walking, and golfing. She was a lifelong learner and reader and enjoyed her ladies’ book club. All that knew her loved her calm, generous, gracious demeanour and sense of humour. She was known for her fashion sense, great book collection and well-manicured nails.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada.

Please join us at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2023, for a Memorial Service and reception to follow at Springfield Funeral Home, located at 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. If you are unable to attend in person, please join the family online by Livestream at the time of the service (see below), a recording will be made available to view shortly thereafter.

    Only met Evie in the 2000’s, but she quickly became very special to me and it felt like I had known her all my life. She was a delight -full of wit, knowledge and caring. She will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her. Deepest condolences to Larry, Phyllis and Vic.

    I met Evie in 1962 when I moved to Halifax to work at BNS. We became friends and maintained that friendship throughout our entire lives. Although we were many miles apart for most of our lives, we kept in touch and had visits. Evie was one of my dearest and best friends and I will always have her in my heart.

    I remember Evie fondly from working with her at Scotiabank in Ottawa, having a little cocktail with her, Larry and my parents, Anne and Art, at the local pub on the Byward market, and her help with my own wedding.
    She was a great lady and will be missed .
