We Remember

KOSOLOFSKI, Derreck Lawrence

July 29, 1992 — December 23, 2022

On December 23, 2022, Derreck Kosolofski, age 30 years, lost his battle with mental illness.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother Sharon Johnson (Jay); father Rick Kosolofski (Tammy); sisters Megan Faye (Aaron), and Chelsey Johnson (Brad); step-siblings Tammy, Brandy, Kodi, Kolby, and Brianna; girlfriend Cassidy; grandparents Paul and Judy Gervais; numerous aunts, uncles, extended family, and friends; and Derreck’s much loved dog Stella.

Derreck grew up in the Okanagan, surrounded by love.  He was kind, fearless, funny, and quick-witted.  He travelled through Indonesia, Thailand, and other parts of Asia, and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.  He liked paddleboarding, exploring local waterfalls, and enjoying food – especially his mom’s cooking.

He was also generous, giving, and empathetic.  After discovering an amazing charity initiative, Derreck told Sharon that day… “I had a good rest of my day though. Tow truck driver took me to his aunt’s store, she sells meat and stuff, kinda like a Butcher shop/deli. She does these really cheap food hampers for seniors In need and gives free soup to anyone who needs it. I’m gonna sponsor this woman in her 80s, and I’m gonna try and volunteer for her delivering meals to the people getting sponsored. When I was talking with her, it gave me this feeling I haven’t felt in a really long time, and I’m really excited to try and offer some help.”

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to Tydel Foods, e-transfer to Brigida@tydelfoods.com. Please let Tydel Foods know that the donation is in memory of Derreck. This was a community initiative that Derreck held close to his heart. Derreck had wanted to sponsor a senior through this organization.  Derreck told his mom, Sharon, he wanted to volunteer there, as Brigida sends hampers to low-income seniors to ensure everyone can afford to eat. Her motto is “People before profits”.  For more information about the Tydel Foods community initiative, follow this link: Charity Information.

I first met this beauty of of a human about 6 or 7 years ago. He was my night supervisor in the well testing part of the oil patch. I never had to worry about things when he was running the show. One of the smartest people I have had the pleasure of meeting. We worked together for a couple of years, and kept in touch over the years.
It really saddens me about the loss of a friend and great person. I wish all of his family the best. If anything is ever needed please do not hesitate to reach out, as I know he would have done the same for me.

  • Bryan Stratton says:

My dear friend, I never thought I’d be writing a good bye to you! I always assumed it would be the other way around, you writing a good bye to me. My heart is heavy with grief, and longing to just pick up the phone and call you. I’m still thinking that this is just a bad dream that I’ll wake up from. But I know that’s not true deep down inside. I’m going to miss you until we meet again. I know it’s not the end, but a brief pause in our friendship. Till we meet again my friend! Take care, and know that a big piece of my life has a void in it that only you can fill. Till we meet again my friend, so long my Brother…..
