We Remember

MELNYCHUK, Elsie
June 2, 1924 — March 26, 2025
With sadness, we announce the passing of Elsie Elaine Melnychuk on March 26, 2025, in Kelowna, BC, at 100 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband Bill (1914 – 1992). She is survived by three children: Eugene, Valerie, and Lyle (as well as multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren).
During her retirement she enjoyed gardening, baking, card games, and travel. She often retold stories from her days running a farm back in Saskatchewan.
Elsie had great talent for making Ukrainian food (without recipe, known by heart): Borscht, Perogies, Holubtsi, pies, tarts, Paska and more. Her holiday dinners created many years of good memories.
She looked back fondly on her friendship with Jim (predeceased), and kept his gifted teddy bear close until her last moments.
Elsie’s family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude toward staff and friends at Cottonwoods Care Centre, especially those in her section of ‘Ethel Glen’. A special thanks to Amanda as well – for getting to know Elsie and keeping her engaged in activities. The friendly smiles and welcoming environment were a comfort to all during these last couple of years.
No funeral or service will be held.

Oh Elsie! You had the best hugs!! I met this lovely lady at Sun Pointe where I was dietary. She came in with a big smile every morning and would ask “whatcha got for me?”. My thoughts are with all of you. She was a beautiful soul.
