We Remember

LUND, Lorne

November 17, 1944 — May 7, 2025

Lorne Lund, 80, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, with his family by his side. He will be sadly missed by his son Stacey, daughter-in-law Melony, granddaughter Sierra, and his sister Carol. Predeceased by his wife Hanna, son Darcey, and his sister Marie.

Born on November 17, 1944, Lorne grew up on a farm in Hardisty, Alberta. In the 1960s he moved to Abbotsford, BC, where he met and married Hanna, and together they raised their two sons, Darcey and Stacey.

Lorne dedicated a significant portion of his life to his career, working for the highways and driving concrete trucks on the coast. In the early 1970s, the family relocated to Kelowna, where Lorne continued to drive concrete trucks until 1989, when he started his own company, D & L Septic. Lorne was a hard worker and set the standard for honesty and customer service at D & L, building a company known for its commitment to excellence and care for every client. He had a big heart and a generous spirit, often helping those who couldn’t afford to pay in trade for a meal. His kindness touched many lives over the years.

Following his retirement in 2007, Lorne devoted himself to caring for Hanna after she was diagnosed with dementia. She had to live in a home for a time, but he never missed a day visiting her, and eventually he was able to bring her back home. They would often be seen hand-in-hand or zipping around town in his smart car, he provided great care and support for her until she passed.

A passionate enthusiast of vehicles and equipment, his front yard was always full of his treasures. He really enjoyed conversations with friends, and his daily coffee meet-up with his buddies was the highlight of his day. He found joy in the simple moments of life, often sharing laughter and stories.

In his final months, Lorne faced a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Though it was a challenging time, it gave us the precious opportunity to say our goodbyes. He met it with bravery, creating lasting memories and sharing many laughs with us. We spent countless hours holding his hand while Sierra snuggled beside him in his hospital bed. Those final moments were raw yet beautiful, in their own way – deeply meaningful, and for that, we are truly grateful.

Lorne’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him. Yet, we find comfort in the cherished memories we hold dear, knowing that his spirit will continue to live on through the lives he touched.
