We Remember

STONE, David Gottfrid

May 17, 1923 — June 15, 2025

At the grand age of 102, David Stone passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, at Brandt’s Creek Mews in Kelowna, BC.

While David was born in Ridgedale, SK, he was actually raised in Tisdale, SK by his parents, the late Olaf & Anna (née Stien) Stone.

Living across two millenniums, David witnessed sweeping change. Born in the Roaring Twenties, he lived through the great depression and two world wars (serving in one of them), he moved from the age of steam and telegrams into the information era, and survived a global pandemic. Though the times he lived were complex, he kept it simple, he gravitated to music and devoted his time to a Barbershop Quartet; he sang in the quartet for over 40 years. When he was younger, in the 1960s, David was an avid curler and later liked to play golf. He was the loving husband to his late wife, Joyce Stone. He is survived by his stepson, Raymond; grandchildren Chris, Cheryl, and Kelly; his great-grandchildren; as well a numerous nieces and nephews.

David will be missed.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Brandt’s Creek Mews for their care and compassion shown to David during his stay

  • Harold Hilton and Arleen Sarsons says:

Our deepest sympathy to David’s family. David was a great neighbour and friend for over 20 years. We always enjoyed his company and stories of time spent in the war and his passion for singing, golfing and curling. He had good taste for single malt scotch and always said that his doctor prescribed an ounce of scotch a day for long life. Maybe there was some truth to that as he had a good and healthy long life. Always enjoyed our scotch sessions. David will be missed.

  • Debbie Schmidt says:

My father arrived at Brandt’s Creek Mews in April of 2023 and shortly after David arrived. We chitchatted a bit here and there, so I asked David to join my dad and I on the putting green outside. Both men putted while I retrieved balls for them!
I wish I knew more about David at the time, as both men had more in common than just golf…..a love of singing and curling, and both spent time in the armed forces. I knew that service was important to David. Sadly, my father has also passed, but I wanted to share with you that David was appreciated (and looked out for) by others during his time at Brandt’s Creek.
May fond memories help you find peace in your loss.
