We Remember

HOULT, Darren Dwight
September 15, 1970 — July 7, 2025
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the unexpected, sudden passing of Darren Dwight Hoult, of Kelowna, BC, found on July 7, 2025, at the age of 54 years young.
Darren is survived by his parents, mother Marliyn Rudy and father Steve Rudy (Kelowna, BC), daughters Kyra Hoult (Ross Newton) (Langley, BC), and Amanda (Kyler) McKechney (Milestone, SK), brother Darrell Hoult (Winnipeg, MB), step-sister MaryAnn Gunderson (Steve Gunderson) (Edmonton, AB), and many other extended family members.
Darren was born on September 15, 1970, in Kelowna, BC. He graduated from Rutland High School and spent his whole life working incredibly hard in various jobs that involved taking care of the city he lived in, whether it was Edmonton, Alberta, or Kelowna, BC. His most recent employment was at Waste Connections of Canada in Kelowna, BC, which he always talked highly of, made many friends at, and enjoyed doing.
Darren loved his family, and his two daughters, Kyra & Amanda, were his world. He was a hard shell on the outside, but a soft-hearted lover on the inside who always just wanted to make people happy. He loved being with people, whether it was sharing a few drinks, a couple good jokes, or having a good meal at a pub.
He valued spending time with family and loved being outdoors. He loved fishing in lakes or sitting around a campfire. He always took care of everyone else before himself, and loved being the fixer of the family. He appreciated a good cold beer and a long afternoon nap. Darren loved having new things; whether it be a new kitchen gadget or form of technology, but he especially loved having new vehicles with good gas mileage, and often had a new one every year just to find the best. He also appreciated the simple things in life, a good photo album with pictures of his daughters, the blast of air conditioning on a hot day, a turning arrow at a busy intersection, and a cheap t-shirt and ball-cap from Cabelas.
Darren was a fun and loving father and enjoyed being involved with his daughter’s latest life events. He helped walk his daughter Amanda down the aisle and shared a dance with her at her wedding in 2023, and he was looking forward to being a grandfather to his first grandchild, Kyra’s unborn daughter, who is due to arrive in November 2025.
All of Darren’s family & friends will deeply miss him in the minutes, days, weeks, months, and years to come. He will always be remembered. Please raise a glass to the heavens for Darren, where he is, for sure looking over all of us – he would have wanted that.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Please keep in touch with either of his daughters to be informed of those decisions that will be made in due time. We thank everybody for the messages of condolences, it is appreciated to know how loved and cared for he was, and is.
We will miss you, Dad. We love you so much and were taken too soon from us. Cheers.

I am the car girl.
