We Remember

TURCOTTE, George Michie

July 28, 1940 — August 11, 2025

George Michie Turcotte, a career soldier whose discipline in the Canadian Armed Forces carried into his civilian life, died on August 11, 2025, in Kelowna General Hospital. He was 85. His family was at his side.

Born on July 28, 1940, in Melfort, Saskatchewan, George grew up in the Prairies where he met Audrey who would be his wife for more than six decades. They married in 1960, two years after he enlisted in the army at the age of 19.

During his 20-year military career, George served across Canada, retiring in 1979, at the age of 39. His next chapter was in the private security sector, where he worked more than two decades with Commissionaires BC, a role that matched his sense of order and responsibility. He also explored real estate and landscaping, finding satisfaction in both the structure and tangible results of the work.

Athletics were a constant in his life. He was a keen curler and golfer, and sport was a family affair, often a point of connection across generations.

George was a loving father who raised his children to be independent with a strong work ethic. His grandchildren were a great joy in his life and each one of them held a special place in his heart, always revealing his gentler side.

George will be missed and remembered by Audrey; their children Chris (Irene), Michelle (Wayne), and Geoff; by grandchildren Jordan, Jason, Taylor, Alexi, and Chris; and by many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Berger (Marilyn). He follows his parents and other brothers in death.
