We Remember
BRABANDT, Harry Gunther Carl
June 15, 1949 — August 28, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harry Gunther Carl Brabandt, who left us peacefully on August 28, 2025, after a series of major health issues over the last nine years. Harry was 76. He is survived by his wife Cheryl; daughter Kristina and granddaughter Alicia; daughter Adrienne (Paul) and grandsons Louis and Jackson; and his son Andrew (Jenny).
Harry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was born on June 15, 1949, in Papenburg, Germany. He immigrated to Canada at the age of twelve with his parents, Gunther and Hildegard, older brother, Eddy, and older sister, Helen, settling in Ontario. After spreading his wings in his later teen years, Harry ended up in Vancouver, BC, and eventually moved to Prince George, BC, with his first wife, where they welcomed a daughter, Kristina, in 1975. Following their separation, Harry met his life-long partner Cheryl (Cheri to family and friends), and together they began a life full of love and laughter.. Harry and Cheri married in 1981 and moved to Kelowna in 1986 to be closer to Cheri’s family, whom Harry also loved and admired. In 1989, they welcomed their daughter, Adrienne, followed by the birth of their son, Andrew, in 1993.
Harry was a sales rep at Orchard Ford for over 28 years and won many prestigious sales awards during that time. Harry was also very skilled in upholstery and sewing, a skill he learned from an earlier vocation, and in his spare time worked on numerous projects, including couches, car seats, custom leather club jackets, and boat covers, among other things.
When he wasn’t working, Harry enjoyed boating out on Okanagan Lake while listening to classic tunes. Following their retirement in 2014 and 2015, respectively, Harry and Cheri moved to Powell River, a dream they had both shared because of their love of the ocean. After spending almost five wonderful years there, they moved back to Kelowna to be closer to their grandchildren. Harry was also an expert crêpe and pancake maker, and enjoyed making Sunday brunch for his very appreciative family. Harry’s crêpes were the best!
Harry brought joy into every room he was in and was the life of the party. His spirit, warmth, and humour touched everyone who knew him, leaving behind memories that will be treasured forever. He will be missed more than words can say, and his legacy of love, laughter, and strength will live on in the hearts of his family as well as those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation.
