We Remember

BURTNIAK, Peter Paul

June 23, 1935 — September 5, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Peter Paul Burtniak, who passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, at Kelowna General Hospital, at the age of 90.

Left to hold him dear to their hearts are his wife of 63 years, Eldeanna; children, Rhonda (Darrell), Darryl, Roberta (Randy), and Kalvin; grandchildren Kassandra, Alyssa, Crystal, Anthony, Kristina, and Laurel; and great-grandchildren, Justin, Kassidy, Declan, McKenna, Royce, Nixon, Aveah, Taylor, Jacob and Atlas.

He now goes to join those who passed before him, including his parents; 10 siblings; and granddaughter, Quincey.

Peter’s love for music was a defining part of his life from an early age. Drawn especially to country and bluegrass, he poured his energy into creating and performing, playing in a number of bands over the years – one of them famously called The Country Kings. Their sound was brought to life by the strum of the guitar, the sweet notes of the mandolin, the fiddle’s warmth, and the steady rhythm of the stand-up bass. Music was always close to Peter’s heart, so much so that he co-owned (with Eldeanna) The Music Factory in Kelowna for 20 years. While she ran the store, Peter would spend many hours there sharing his passion with countless others all the while working as a full-time electrician. If he wasn’t playing, he was whistling – and those around him always knew where he was by the cheerful tune that followed him.

Peter dedicated himself to his lifelong career as an electrician, a profession he carried with pride and skill. His personal life was equally rich and full; he met the love of his life, Eldeanna, at a dance in Dauphin, MB. They went on to build a life full of travel, adventures across Canada, fishing trips, camping excursions, painting, and Dutch oven cooking. Later, they embraced the snowbird lifestyle, spending winters in Arizona and other adventures in an RV, enjoying the warmth and new experiences. Above all, Peter cherished his family deeply, filling their lives with love, laughter, and music. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his joyful spirit and the melodies he left behind will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM, located at the SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, with a reception to follow in the Springfield Funeral Home Family Centre.
