We Remember
PETRIN, Walter
February 22, 1944 — September 18, 2025
Walter Petrin passed away peacefully at the age of 81, on September 18, 2025, in his home (that he built) in Kelowna, BC. Walter may have been a Canadian citizen, but in his heart he was Italian forever.
Walter is survived by his loving partner of over 32 years, Rose Forster; his children Lorenzo Petrin and Paul Petrin (Tammy), and stepchild, Kurt Forster (Patti); his brother Mario Petrin and sister, Renata Romanzin; and many dear extended family members. Sadly, he was predeceased by his son Michael Petrin (d. Dec 20, 1993), and his brothers Angelo Petrin, Nereo Petrin, and Miller Petrin.
Born on February 22, 1944, in the commune of San Martino di Lupari in the Province of Padova in the Italian region Veneto, Walter moved to Canada in his teens with a few family members. He then took the train all the way from Nova Scotia to Alberta, where he immediately started working. After a long career as a bricklayer and stonemason, he retired in his 70s.
Walter loved history and art, and he especially admired Italian architecture. Another of his great loves was food and wine; like so many other things in his life, Walter made the wine himself. Walter enjoyed gardening so much that he dutifully brought his fig trees in for the winter and returned them to the sun each spring.
Thank you to Interior Health caregivers for the amazing help; they all helped to bring him excellent care, and Walter appreciated them all.

To the family of Walter Petrin, I first met met Walter some 27 years ago when he took on two projects for our family. Both projects involved our farm property near Pine Lake in Central Alberta. I very quickly realized what a fine gentleman he was and soon gained a great appreciation for his amazing ability to create wonderful pieces of art with his stonemasonry. He constructed a life size replica of a portion of Stonehenge to honor the Summer Solstice and a grand authentic stone fireplace from local rock in our cottage. You shall not be forgotten. May you rest in peace, John Pope
