We Remember
KOPEC, Katherine
January 4, 1955 — September 19, 2025
Katherine Kopec, a whirlwind of charm, laughter, and generosity, left us on September 19, 2025, at the age of 70, leaving behind a trail of fond memories and smiling faces.
Katherine had a way of lighting up a room simply by walking into it, whether she was sharing a story, offering a helping hand, or making sure everyone felt welcome and comfortable. A free spirit with a charismatic presence, she was often the funnest person in any gathering, effortlessly turning ordinary moments into celebrations.
Music was her constant companion, from the sultry grooves of Prince to the rock anthems of Robert Palmer and the sweet harmonies of Blue Rodeo. A keen sports fan, she never missed a chance to cheer for her favourite teams, especially when football was on. And in the kitchen, she wielded her culinary skills like magic, serving ribs and cabbage rolls that could bring even the sternest critic to applause.
Katherine also had a flair for treasure hunting, finding delight in thrift stores, and she had a heart as big as her personality – always generous, always kind, and always making sure those around her felt valued.
She is lovingly remembered by her partner, Laurence McMillian; children, Melissa (Matt) and Wade (Brooke); grandchildren, Rosalee, Audree, and Drew; as well as her siblings, Steve (Jody), Kristi (Louie), Carol, and Leeann (Randy); and her nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Joan; father, Ted; sister, Julie; and brother, Johnny Bart.
Special thanks to the wonderful team at Kelowna General Hospital ICU for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held next summer, where friends and family will gather to honour Katherine in the style she loved best. It will be full of laughter, music, and good cheer.
Katherine’s life reminds us that joy, kindness, and a big personality are contagious; and she shared them generously, leaving the world a brighter, livelier place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kelowna General Hospital (KGH Foundation).
