We Remember

TURBERFIELD, Wayne William

August 16, 1937 — October 26, 2025

Born in Melville, Saskatchewan, Wayne Turberfield lived a life that preferred the sound of water lapping at a boat’s edge to the noise of a crowd. He passed away at Central Okanagan Hospice House in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 88.

He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-nine years, Texsey, whose faith in the Lord could steer any storm. Wayne leaves behind his children Dwaine (Leiflynn) Turberfield, Robert Turberfield, and Joy (Rod) Overdelve; grandchildren Sepreina, Kelvin (Kaelyn), Brandi, Brad (Corrina), and Chelsey (Doug); and his loving great-grandchildren, who will one day hear stories of the “Quiet Captain” and his steady hand at life’s helm. His siblings Shirley, Allan, and Verna, along with many others of his extended family, remain to remember him.

Wayne was a man of few words, though the silence never felt empty. He was known as the “Rad Doctor” for his work repairing radiators; a title both practical and faintly heroic. He fished, camped, and made sure to include his family on the adventures. He once played hockey, later content to watch the game from his chair, nodding at the good passes, the bad calls, the inevitable losses. Wayne was more than words can say.

Friends and family will honour Wayne each in their own way, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, www.kghfoundation.com.
