We Remember

SPOTSWOOD, Alice Eva

December 24, 1938 — December 3, 2025

It is with great love and admiration that we announce the loss of Alice Spotswood, who passed away peacefully in her sleep, with the support of her family, after a long four-year battle with lymphoma on December 3, 2025.

Alice Spotswood was born in Beaverlodge, AB, on Christmas Eve 1938 to Eva Lillian and James Henry Brough. From a young age, Alice was family-oriented, and as the eldest daughter she lent a helping hand to her mom, taking care of her five brothers and two sisters. Alice loved to tell stories from her childhood, often talking about how Jim would lead the group through the snow to get to school, while Alice stayed in the back carrying Rosemary and reminding Jim to take smaller steps, ensuring none of the siblings were left behind.

She later met the love of her life, Emil, at Bible school, and the two married and moved to Grande Prairie, AB, where they had five children—three boys and two girls. Alice was a proud mother, and her children were her greatest blessing. She was their biggest supporter and cheerleader.

Alice loved to entertain, hosting big family dinners and baking delicious cinnamon buns and lemon Danishes. One of her favourite memories to share was going camping throughout British Columbia with all the kids during the summer.

Upon retirement, she moved to Kelowna, where she enjoyed going for coffee with friends, dancing, golfing (even getting a hole-in-one!), and playing table tennis at the Senior Olympics. But her greatest joy was spending time with family, and she loved being spontaneous with them—whether that meant going to Disneyland, attending an Oilers game, or jumping on a trampoline with her grandchildren.

Alice was the kind of woman who could brighten a room just by walking into it.  They noticed her smile with the red lipstick she loved, with the shimmer of her sparkly nails catching the light. She had a way of treating every day as if it deserved a little celebration.

Alice was the world’s best mom, grandma, and great grandma. She loved unconditionally, always saw light even on the darkest days, was solid as a rock, and was the glue that held the family together.

Left to hold her forever in their hearts and carry on her legacy are her children: Rodney (Jeanne), Byron (Kim), Terry (Val), Lorette, and Gaylene (Dale); her grandchildren: Dalen (Michelle), Brandon (Laura), Amanda (Darron), Kristen (Korri), Sarah (Rance), Justin (Natasha), Krystal (Tim), Ashia (Trevor), and Bryce; her very special 22 (and counting) great-grandchildren; and her siblings Jim (Maxine), David (Linda), and Bruce (Debbie); along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Alice was predeceased by her father James; mother Eva; husband Emil; second husband Ken; siblings Marjorie, George, Rosemary, and Rick; and grandchild Ashley.

  • Jim and Maxine Brough says:

Alice was a wonderful sister and friend. I have many fond memories of Alice and I exploring the wilderness and examining all the old abandoned homesteads in our area. She was a wonderful childhood friend to me. Rest in peace Alice. ❤️❤️
