We Remember
DALGARNO, Margaret Janet
—
December 07, 1942 – January 26, 2026
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Margaret Janet Dalgarno (nee Johnston), who departed peacefully on January 26, 2026, at the age of 83, after a short battle with cancer.
Born on December 7, 1942, in Barney’s River, Nova Scotia, as the second oldest in a robust family of 8 siblings. Growing up on a farm, it was simpler times filled with love, laughter, and a bellyful of homemade food. Upon obtaining her LPN designation, Margaret started her life journey across Canada with stops in Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, and finally settled in Kelowna, where she raised her two boys with her loving husband.
Margaret was a lifelong fan of Elvis, which is well known by all those who loved her. Her collection of his albums and CDs was her prized possession, and she passed on her love for his music to her sons and grandchildren. She visited Graceland and called it the trip of a lifetime. She was affectionately known as “Amma” to her grandchildren. She was soft-spoken, gentle, generous, kindhearted, and had genuine affection for animals, especially dogs.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents and parents-in-law; and oldest sister, Ola; brothers-in-law, Gordon and Len; and sisters-in-law Eleanor and Colleen. She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, James Garnet Dalgarno; her sons Kevin (Tracie) and Steven; grandchildren Ethan, Chloe, and Presley. She also leaves behind her remaining siblings, Evelyn, Bob, Shirley, Hector (Ann), Beverly (Brian), Marion (Greg), and brother-in-law Bill, and extended families including nephews and nieces.
Our family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to all relatives and friends who provided comfort and support during Margaret’s last journey. In accordance with Margaret’s wishes, there will be no funeral service, and she will return to the nature trails along creeks where she walks together with Tyson, Buddy, and Archie.

I am heartbroken to hear of Margs passing. I worked with her as an LPN She was lovely and kind and I adored her. After my own mother passed she would bring me gifts for each occasion and I treasure all of them. I recently ran into her and am so glad to receive one more hug, although I did not know she was ill. Rest in peace Margaret. Such a beautiful soul. ❤️. Phyllis Johnson
My condolences to the family. I always enjoyed working with Marg at Cottonwoods. She had a calmness and quietness about her and also a great sense of humour.
Our condolences to Marg’s family and friends. She was such a great friend to Beryl. She was such a kind, caring and thoughtful person. We were all lucky to know Marg ♥️
My heartfelt condolences to Jim, Kevin, Tracy, Ethan, Cloey, Steven, Presley and all of Marg’s beloved family and friends. Marg spoke highly of her family, was extremely proud and was over the moon with her grandkids visits and achievements. She was fondly called Amma by her Grandkids and that always made her smile. Marg loved her boys and showed that love in countless ways. She also loved her siblings and extended families and would share heartwarming stories. She put lots of thought and effort into gifts, cards and cuisine and was always sending special gifts to her family for Christmas, Birthdays and other special occasions.
I met Marg in 2017 when I moved next door to her and Jim in Somerville Corner with my Great Dane Bella and ex. Our mutual love, compassion, empathy and respect for animals drew us close together and we talked or visited most days. Jim and Darcy would join in on date nights, dinners and engaged in friendship and conversation. When Buddy and Bella both passed Marg and I would head out to the SPCA and fundraisers at rescue groups to see if we could find our new fur babies. Some time later Jim and Marg adopted their beloved Archie, a Golden Doodle and I adopted Teddy, a Pomeranian. The puppies soon became best friends. Marg and I always enjoyed being together with our dogs and had numerous play dates to the dog park, H2O or in each other’s homes. Marg never failed to take Archie out for long walks, the dog park or for a swim. She was absolutely dedicated and committed to doing that. When Jim went into the Long Care Term Home Marg would purchase Jim’s favourite treats and take Archie up with her for regular visits. Jim was always so happy to see Marg and Archie.
Marg and I would visit on a regular basis and would indulge in wine and solve all the problems of the world or at least thought we could!
Marg loved Elvis Presley and had on his music every time you got in her car. She had a collection of Elvis treasures and her eyes would light up talking about him and of course the memorable trip to Graceland with her son.
Marg was a kind, thoughtful, generous, fun loving, sweet, motivated, strong willed woman and my beautiful friend. I am heartbroken by the loss of her but am grateful for the privilege I’ve had in knowing and loving her for so many years and all the laughs, fun, comfort, support, hugs and good times we shared.
Much love, hugs and condolences to all of Marg’s loved ones. 💐
My heartfelt condolences to Jim, Kevin, Tracie, Ethan, Cloey, Steven, Presley, family, friends and all of Marg’s loved ones. I am heartbroken to hear of Marg’s passing. She was a beloved wife, mother, Amma, sister, aunt, friend and dog mom. Marg was kind, thoughtful, generous, fun loving, dedicated, motivated and my beautiful friend. We shared many visits, wine dates, play dates, dinners, talks and companionship. Marg loved her family and fur babies beyond measure. She was always happy go lucky and smilely. I miss my friend, confidant, support person, ear, happy, laughing friend. Marg loved Elvis and had a huge treasure trove of music and paraphernalia. Elvis was always playing Elvis in her car. She especially loved her trip to Graceland with her son. Time spent with Marg’s grandkids was always a highlight. Marg’s beloved fur babies gave her constant love and companionship. She was dedicated, motivated and determined to exercise them daily and give them the most loving home.
I definitely miss my beautiful friend Marg and treasure all of our memories. Marg made my life so much better by being in it.
