We Remember

FERGIN, Olga

April 3, 1926 — February 9, 2026

Born on April 3, 1926, in the small Polish village of Zakrzewo, Olga Fergin lived a long and sturdy life. On February 9, 2026, in Vernon, BC, at the age of 99, she went home to be with her Lord; no doubt with a proper sense of order about it.

She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Artur, and her son Edwin, along with her brother and three sisters; a gathering that would have suited her just fine.

To come to Canada Olga needed to be determined; she slipped from East Germany to West Germany at night, through the Iron Curtain, before the actual wall went up, carrying little more than courage and common sense. She later met Artur in Pincher Creek, AB, and they were married on October 3, 1953. Together, they were faithful in their church life and attended Kelowna’s First Lutheran Church (now known as The Sanctuary) where, for them, belief was something practised rather than talked about.

Olga was a gifted seamstress, a capable gardener, and a reliable cook; skills she used not for praise, but for service. She had a habit of helping where help was needed, and doing it without announcement.

Left to mourn her passing is her son, Don Fergin of Calgary, AB, who knew her as both mother and quiet example; as well as her numerous cousins.

She will be missed and remembered with genuine affection.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her old home church where the services will be held – St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Calgary AB.
