We Remember

JONES, Robin C. M.

July 6, 1967 — April 30, 2026

With unbelievable sadness we announce that Robin Christopher Meredith Jones (affectionately known as RJ or Jonesy), born July 6, 1967, in Toronto, ON, has left a gaping hole in this world. He left on April 30, 2026, after living with advanced cancer for over a decade. He leaves behind his high school sweetheart wife, Jennifer Clarke; his two beautiful daughters, Nadia and Natasha; and dog, Shelby. He leaves behind his brother and friend, Evan; niece Lauren and nephew Gavin; and his adoring sister Sara and brother-in-law Marc. He also leaves his parents-in-law Joe and Cathy, and brother-in-law Michael. He was predeceased by his mother, Karol, in 2025, and father, Evan, in 1992. A testament to his huge personality, he leaves behind many good friends in Toronto, Kelowna, Vancouver, Seattle, Australia and places in between.

Childhood summers with his brother and sister were largely feral; spent riding bikes and swimming at the family cottage at Nellie Lake, ON. Many memories come from that special place. Robin attended Oakwood CI in Toronto, building meaningful friendships that continue today. After completing a BASc and an MSc in Civil Engineering (Waterloo), he went on to complete an MBA (Simon Fraser), whilst working full-time with a newborn daughter. Robin became a well respected environmental (civil) engineer, providing mentorship and true friendship to many, and was President of the B.C. Contaminated Sites Approved Professionals Society for some time. After his professional career he never stopped seeking knowledge, was ever-ready to delve into serious and not so serious topics over a beer, and was an unending source of fun facts.

Robin’s personality was larger than life. He was funny without filters, peppering any conversation with expletives and wit. He was intelligent, curious, and above all, generously kind. “You’ll never regret being too kind” was his message to the girls. His sense of humour and positivity were noticed and appreciated by everyone he met, no matter the circumstance.

Robin was very active and athletic for his whole life, spending winters on the ski hill and summers on his mountain bike. He later took up guitar, baking, and online courses. With true frustration, he never got to see the Leafs win a Stanley Cup but still enjoyed watching the game. He gave back in many ways, including volunteering time with the BC Cancer Patient and Family Partner Experience, providing valuable insight on behalf of others dealing with cancer, and was an effective Board member with the West Kelowna Trail Crew, advocating for mountain bike trails in the area.

Robin didn’t lose a battle. He blew the odds right out of the water and lived a full life. Illness didn’t break his spirit nor his resolve to be there for his girls. He left a huge hole and will be missed.

We are so grateful for the outstanding care that he received from those at BC Cancer (Kelowna) and most recently the Central Okanagan Hospice.

Gatherings will be held in Kelowna (on June 23, 2026, from 4-6 pm at Dunnenzie’s (Mission)) and Toronto (on July 26, 2026, from 3-5 pm at Ferro Bar Cafe) with a small family gathering at Nellie Lake for Robin to join his mother and father (on July 23, 2026). We ask that you bring stories to share and leave behind (for the family to cherish).

Donations in Robin’s memory may be directed to the BC Cancer Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or the Central Okanagan Hospice House.

Condolences

  • Alex Ireland says:

I had the chance to meet Robin through his time at BC Cancer and he was truly one of a kind. Even on his worst days he would greet us with a smile and inquiry about how we were doing. He was so generous with his kindness and getting the opportunity to read more about him proved to me just how much that is true. He was the epitome of a great man and I am so grateful that that will pass on to his children. I know he will be so missed as I could tell how much he loved his family and was loved by them. I am sending you all love during this time, I am so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful man.

  • Nora says:

Robin’s departure is sad news for me, and I extend my very best wishes to you, Jen, Nadia and Natasha, as you tackle this challenging moment and difficult times to come.. Robin was a beauty and we had a lot of laughs while doing the serious business of strategizing how best to bring great bike trails and trail management to the valley’s riders. We’ve lost a great human.
