We Remember
KNELLER, Alfred
April 20, 1937 — April 27, 2026
Alfred Edwin Kneller passed away peacefully at home, with family by his side, on April 27, 2026. He was born April 20, 1937, in New Sarepta, Alberta, to Gustave and Rose (née Lueders) Kneller.
Alfred grew up in Rolly View on the family farm and attended Parkdale School. When he was a teenager, he joined the Leduc Band with his father. The band would play in the Edmonton Exhibition parade and other town parades too.
In 1952, Alfred went to work in Edmonton, and his first job was as an apprentice in welding; later on, he got the “Pressure Welding” certificate.
In 1958, he married Doris Schubert. They moved to Calgary where Alfred’s work was to build pressure vessels. Early in 1959, the family then moved to Mile 101 on the Alaska Highway, working in the oilfield. By the end of 1960, they returned to Edmonton, where Alfred owned and operated portable welding units and a fabrication shop, where he built pressure vessels; tanks; structures for oil rigs; as well as barges and survey vessels for oil exploration in the Arctic. Later, he developed a device for joining pipeline connections without welding. In the spring of 2008, Alfred retired and they moved to the warmer weather of Lake Country, BC.
Alfred was predeceased by his parents and his sister Esther. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Doris; three sons, Dale (Patti), Norman (Sandi), and Brian (Crystal); five grandsons, Benjamin (Caitlyn), Kevin, Jacob, Samson, and Kolby; three granddaughters, Kara (Justin), Mallory (Ryan), and Kennedy; and four great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Otto, Ivan, and Nina. He will also be missed by his brother Ron (Karen), niece Cathy, and nephew Michael.
A service will be held in Alberta.
