We Remember
SMITH, Eldon Clarence
October 1, 1937 — June 6, 2026
It is with immense love and sadness that we announce the loss of Eldon Clarence Smith, who passed away peacefully, while surrounded by family on June 6, 2026, at the age of 88, after a brief battle with lung cancer.
Eldon is lovingly survived by his wife, Else; two daughters, Debbie (John) and Susan (Murray); five grandchildren, Lindsay (Jon), Courtney (Stu), Matthew (Alex), Jamie (Brittany), and Alex (Sean); nine great-grandchildren, Jacob, Carly, Chloe, Kailey, Natalie, Liam, Hunter, Ryan, Nixen, and Blue; siblings, Curt (Bev) and Wendy; and close family friend, Shane.
He now goes to join his life-long friend and best man, Dave Doman, who passed before him in 2024.
Eldon was born on October 1, 1937, in Lindale, Alberta, to Ralph and Avis Smith. He went on to build a long career as a truck driver, though he would often jokingly sum up his workday by saying he simply “got in a cab and drove.” Eldon was known for his easygoing nature, quick wit, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. He had a huge heart and a genuine interest in the people around him, making friends wherever he went.
Family meant everything to Eldon. He made it a priority to be involved in the lives of those he loved and took great pride in being a grandfather and uncle. He treasured the time spent with his family and created many memories that will be held close for years to come. Eldon also cherished lifelong friendships, especially the bond he shared with his best friend, Dave. The two met in 1947 and remained close throughout their lives, united by a shared passion for vintage vehicles and countless years of friendship. The pair stayed in touch right up until Dave’s passing.
Eldon also had a special love for dogs, especially his beloved Peanut, who brought him endless companionship and joy. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him and experience his warmth, generosity, and love.
“It’s about the journey, not the destination” – Eldon Smith
A Private family gathering will be held in the summer to celebrate Eldon’s life.
