We Remember

CALDWELL, David Earl

February 24, 1946 — June 26, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Earl Caldwell, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on June 26, 2026, at the age of 80.

Born in North Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1946 to Earl and Edith Caldwell, Dave lived a life defined by hard work, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Dave worked alongside his father and brother at Caldwell Industries for many years until his retirement in 2001. He took great pride in his work and was a dedicated provider, working long hours to ensure his family had a wonderful life. Despite his busy schedule, he always found time to care for his home and yard. It was not uncommon to find him lying on the ground beneath a shrub, carefully pruning it to perfection.

In 1970, Dave met the love of his life, Suzanne, at a dance. Thanks to a lucky button, the two found each other, beginning a love story that would span 56 wonderful years. Together they welcomed their first daughter, Tracy, in May 1972, followed by Kathy in December 1974.

Dave is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 56 years, Suzanne; his daughters, Tracy (Pedro) and Kathy (Kristian); his cherished grandchildren, Micah, Cassidy, Brianna, Cameron, and Dylan; and his treasured great-granddaughter, Willow.

He was predeceased by his father, Earl, in 1983; his mother, Edith, in 1999; and his brother, Bob, in 2022.

An avid golfer, Dave was a longtime member of Seymour Golf and Country Club, where he enjoyed countless rounds of golf and treasured the friendships he made over the years.

Dave’s love of sports extended well beyond the golf course. As a young man, he played football for his high school team, was an accomplished trap shooter, and later enjoyed curling with Suzanne and friends before embracing the game of golf. He was also an enthusiastic sports fan who rarely missed the chance to cheer on his favourite teams—the BC Lions, Chicago Bears, and Los Angeles Dodgers. Whether watching from the stands or from home, his passion for the game was unmistakable.

Family was at the heart of everything Dave did. He and Suzanne created a lifetime of memories together, spending many family holidays in Maui and at Lake Chelan. After retiring together, in 2002 at the age of 55, they moved to Kelowna to be closer to their growing family. They spent many happy years living lakeside, watching their daughters and grandchildren make lifelong memories on the water. When the time came to leave the lake, they built their dream home, while also enjoying many years at their second home in Thousand Palms, numerous cruises, and many return trips to Dave’s happy place—Maui. There, he could often be found relaxing on the lanai, playing crib with his good friend Eddy.

His family takes great comfort in knowing that Dave celebrated both his 80th birthday and his final birthday in Maui, surrounded by the people he loved most.

Dave’s family will always treasure the memories of sitting together, listening to his favourite music and singing along with him. He loved music, loved to sing, and those simple moments spent together became some of the memories they will hold closest to their hearts.

Dave was a truly kind and generous man who never hesitated to help others. He was a wonderful listener, always willing to lend a hand, and would quite literally give anyone the shirt off his back. To know Dave was to love him.

He will be deeply missed by his family, his many friends, and all whose lives were made better by knowing him.
