We Remember

DALGARNO, James Garnet

June 6, 1943 — August 27, 2026

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, James “Jim” Garnet Dalgarno, who departed peacefully in the early morning of August 27, 2026, at the age of 83. Diagnosed with Alzheimer disease, Jim spent this past year at Mission Creek Landing care facility.

Born on June 6, 1943, in Vancouver, BC to Patrick and Florence Dalgarno, together with his older brother settled in Vancouver after a brief time in Yukon Territory. After graduation, at 19 years, James enlisted in the Canadian Royal Navy and was medically discharged after 3 years of service. While he was being treated at VGH, his future wife Margaret oversaw his recovery. Thus began a courtship which led to a loving marriage that lasted until her passing earlier this year.

Settled in Kelowna, raising two rambunctious boys, there was never a dull moment in the Dalgarno household. Jim was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about gardening and creating flowering hanging baskets. His backyard was full of vibrant colours, and his greatest joy was nurturing the giant rhubarb plant that is still thriving to this day. Affectionately known as “Poppa,” Jim was generous with his time and a phone call away to lend a helping hand to anyone that reach out, graciously drove his grandchildren to sporting activities and provide roadside assistance when needed (there have been many)!

Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret; his parents and parents-in-law; brother-in-law Gordon, brother-in-law Len, sister-in-law Ola, sister-in-law Eleanor, and sister-in-law Colleen. He is survived by his two sons, Kevin (Tracie) and Steven, and his grandchildren Ethan, Chloe, and Presley. He also leaves behind his older brother Bill Dalgarno, of London, Ontario, and extended families including nephews and nieces.

Our family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Goldberg and the staff at Mission Creek Landing for providing comfort and care during Jim’s declining health.

In accordance with Jim’s wishes, there will be no funeral service, and our family will honour him respectfully and privately.
