We Remember
D`ORNELLAS, Decio Harold
June 27, 1946 — September 27, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Decio Harold “Desi” D’Ornellas announces his passing on September 27, 2026, at the age of 80. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Desi will be remembered for his generous spirit, his quick humour, and the deep love he held for his family.
Born in Guyana on June 27, 1946, to Vincent and Rita D’Ornellas, Desi emigrated to Toronto in 1969 at the age of 23. He earned his designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant through the University of Toronto and built a distinguished career that included service as Chief Financial Officer of Eli Lilly, as well as positions with Canada Revenue Agency, Johnson Controls, and Dent’s Supply. A career opportunity and a yearning for change eventually led him to Kelowna, BC, where he made his home. In semi-retirement, he delivered newspapers for the Daily Courier.
Desi’s devotion to his family shaped his life. He sponsored his mother and each of his brothers and sisters to come to Canada from Guyana, giving them all a new beginning and keeping the family together. He was a passionate man with a big heart, and those who knew him found him comfortable to be around and always ready with a joke. He took great pride in watching his son play hockey, and he was a devoted grandfather.
Desi loved to sing and to act, and he took to the stage in community plays, a love that inspired his granddaughter to take up theatre herself. He also enjoyed a good game of bridge, a crossword puzzle, and a round of golf.
Desi was predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Rita, and his first wife, Desiree Ann.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Elsa; his children, Carrie Ann and Darryl (Whitney); his grandchildren, Isabella, Brittany, and Victoria; and his great-grandchildren, Aubriella, Tristan, and Gabriel.
He will also be dearly missed by Elsa’s children, Jun, Maria Solyn, and the late Hazed, and her grandchildren, John Sherwin, Dexter, Prince Joash, Gretchen, Zhan, Kiant, Mariant, Seant, Bleant “Bless”, Jiant, and Deant; his brothers and sisters, Clive (Desiree), Ronald (Roseanna), Eon (Bonnie), Bryan (Debbie), Joanne (Adrian), and Marcia (Mark); his aunt, Monica Vieira; his godchildren, Lori-Ann, Scott, and Stacey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear family friends, including Arwiel and Blanca Abeua and family; Bella and Daddy Wayne Mocford; Marniele and Ray Bacolod and family; and Lorna and Sonny Mayuga and family.
Prayers were held on October 1, 2026, at 3:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.
A Mass of Christian Burial, with Father Biju presiding, will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 4:00 PM (PDT), at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1346 Gordon Drive, Kelowna, BC. If you are unable to attend in person, please join the family online by livestream at the time of the service.
