We Remember

GREENGRASS, Gordon Allan “Al”

January 24, 1952 — October 21, 2026

It is with endless love and immense sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Allan “Al” Greengrass, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 21, 2026, at the age of 74.

Dad was an incredibly kind, generous, thoughtful, and selfless man who was always ready to lend a helping hand. Whether something needed fixing, building, or figuring out, you could always count on him to putter around and complete his famous “dad jobs.” He had a way of making everyone around him feel cared for, and he never hesitated to help others.

Dad had a love for the outdoors and adventure. Some of our most treasured memories are the adventures we shared at the lake and our epic canoe trips. He loved his annual canoe trips with his canoe buddies, as well as his annual hiking trips with his hiking buddies. He passed his love of the outdoors on to Graeme and me, teaching us how to carry a canoe over our heads, catch fish so we could eat dinner, set up a tent and get inside before the mosquitoes got us, and, essentially, survive in the wilderness if we ever needed to. These were lessons in far more than camping; they were lessons in independence, resourcefulness, and making the most of life’s adventures. They are memories and skills I hope to carry forward with my own children so they can experience some of the same magic we did together.

Dad also enjoyed making his own wine and beer, and he proudly created his very own “winery,” which he named GrassMan Estate Winery. The name was a clever combination of Greengrass, his last name, and Manitoba, where we are from. Dad remained active and competitive throughout his life, playing competitive pickleball until December 2025. He enjoyed keeping busy, learning, and spending time doing the things he loved.

Above all, Dad treasured his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved reading books and singing songs with Bentley, Ella, and Rennie, taking them on bike rides, and going on little adventures walking along the creek. He had a special way of making the time with them meaningful, filling their days with love, laughter, and simple moments that will become some of their most cherished memories. His love for them was immeasurable, and the memories they have made together will remain a precious part of who they are.

I will miss our time at the lake, our Sunday family dinners, bike rides with the kids, sitting together chatting, and sharing a glass of wine. I will miss his familiar face, his helpful hands, his gentle presence, and knowing that Dad was always there whenever I needed him.

Dad, you were so much more than a father. You were a source of comfort, a helping hand, a familiar face I could always count on, and a constant reminder of what it means to be a genuinely good person. You showed your love through the things you did for others, often without being asked and never expecting anything in return. Your kindness, generosity, and selflessness touched so many lives, and the love you gave will continue to live on in the people you helped, the family you cherished, and the memories we will hold close forever.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Cancer Care Kelowna and the Palliative Team for the excellent, exceptional care they provided Dad throughout his illness. Their compassion, dedication, and support meant so much to him and to our family during an incredibly difficult time.

Al is lovingly survived by his wife of 20 years, Sunny Kim-Greengrass; his children, Gemma (Dusty) and Graeme (Courtenay); and his beloved grandchildren, Bentley, Ella, and Rennie.

He is now reunited with his parents, Jean Elsie Major and Gordon Henry Greengrass, and his sister, Violet (née Greengrass) Holens.
