BOSER, Joe

May 8, 1938 — October 2, 2016

Joe Boser passed away at the Central Okanagan Hospice House on Sunday, October 2, 2016, surrounded by his loving wife of 54 years, Doreen, daughter Susan, and son Darran. Also left to mourn are his sisters Laura Rissling, Eleanor Grahame, Caroline Leibel, Ann Marie Vetter, Kay Gillis, his brother Leo (Doreen Boser, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joe is predeceased by his parents, John Boser Sr. and Marion (Schell), brothers Anton, John, Simon and Zack: sister Monica Carrier, sister Gertrude Boser, as well as sister-in-law Clara Boser and brothers-in-law Anslem Rissling, Don Grahame, Peter Vetter, Jack Leibel and Larry Gillis.

Joe, the youngest of 13 children was born on May 8th, 1938 in Macklin, Saskatchewan hospital, and was raised on the family farm in Reward, Saskatchewan. In 1960 he took his parents to Kelowna to spend the winter. Here he met the love of his life Doreen Volk and never left Kelowna. After marrying, the couple settled in Rutland and raised their family. Joe was employed in the construction trade; the last construction job was working on Hiram Walker’s Distillery plant in Winfield. Upon its completion he was hired to work in Drain and Fill Department where he worked until his retirement at 57. In retirement, Joe and Doreen enjoyed traveling and also enjoyed being members of Good Sam Club. Traveling to warm destinations, bus trips, and most recently the Panama Canal, curling in the winter and golfing in the summer, were favourite pastimes.

Raised in the Catholic Faith, Joe spent many years involved as an active member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd and 4th degree) as well as singing in the Knights of Columbus Choir. Joe was an extremely social and friendly man, who had a keen interest in people and always willing to engage others in conversation. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 10:00 am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (formerly St Theresa’s) 750 Rutland Rd, Kelowna, BC.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice House.
