We Remember
GUNDRUM, Irene
January 9, 1921 — June 22, 2017
Irene passed away peacefully at Kelowna General Hospital on June 22, 2017. She was born on January 9, 1921, one of 10 siblings, in Mayflower, Alberta. She lived and worked in Victoria and Vancouver where she met her husband-to-be, Emil Gundrum.
Irene and Emil moved to Kelowna in 1953 when Emil began teaching at Okanagan Mission Elementary School and Irene began working at Kelowna General Hospital. She worked as a nurses’ aide until she passed her exam to become an LPN. After nursing, Irene volunteered at the hospital for over 20 years and loved every minute.
Irene loved golfing, gardening, bowling, needlework and participating in her circle at the First United Church.
Her house always smelled of fresh baking – particularly cinnamon buns.
Irene was predeceased by her husband Emil and her son Wayne. She is survived by her sisters: Evelyn and Verna; her brothers: Gordon, Will and Lloyd and Bev; her daughters: Sharon (Dick) of Oklahoma and Carolyn (Stefan) of Las Vegas; five grandchildren: Sean (Becky), Kevin (Tricia), Meghan, Christopher and Stephanie; and five great grandchildren: Hannah, Maddy, Lauren, Lance and Davis.

~ Only the fondest memories for a sweet woman !! ~
I was blessed with knowing both Irene ‘n Emil growing up as a youth in Kelowna BC
Carolyn, Sharon et al.
What amazing memories I have of my funny, loving and kind Auntie Irene. I adored her and am so sorry to hear of her passing. She played an integral role in my summer memories of staying with her on Pandosy street when i was a child. I know my dad adored her! My condolences to you all!
Irene Gundrum was such a special lady. Her home on Pandosy was immaculate and welcoming and her 3 children were my friends. Will miss her sense of fun and love of her fine family. You are now with Emil and Wayne- how wonderful. xo
Irene was the sweetest mom ever. I spent many a day at her house with Sharon, often being bothered by younger Wayne and Carolyn but the smell of fresh home made donuts may be my fondest memory. She was always so nice to be around even as she became older and more frail. I last saw her in August, a year ago, when she was as nice and bright and excited to see me as she always was. I will miss her. Her children loved her, that much I know.
I remember her with such fondness. Such a lovely lady! My sincere condolances to you all.

We are thinking of you with sadness over the loss of Irene but at the same time, happy that you are left with wonderful memories of a truly good woman.
So sorry for the loss of your Mother. I remember Auntie Irene as such a bubbly, kind hearted and loving woman. She also was my Godmother and I have a special place in my heart for her. I didn’t get to see her much lately, but do remember going there with my family on vacations in the summer to Pandosy street and picking cherries from her tree. RIP.
Deepest sympathy to your families from the Krause family. We have known Irene from the Ellscott, Alberta years. She never lost her million dollar smile and it was always a joy to have a chat with her. Love to you all.
