We Remember

RASMUSSEN, Douglas Warren
—
Doug passed away suddenly Monday, July 3, 2017 at the age of 64. Survived by his wife Penny of 43 years; daughter Alison Rasmussen (Graham Foster); sons Douglas Rasmussen (Tina Marin), Jeffrey Rasmussen (Lisa Incrocci), Christopher Lee Rasmussen; grandchildren: Joey, Matteo, Joshua, Zachary and Mackenzie; sister Merrilee Rasmussen (Aydon Charlton) of Regina, Saskatchewan and brother Colin Rasmussen (Kendra Fisher) of California. Predeceased by infant son Gregory Rasmussen, mother Margaret Rasmussen and father Dale Rasmussen. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to B.C. Heart & Stroke Foundation and Canadian Diabetes Assoc. We have lost a Soulmate, Dad, Grandfather, Brother and Friend. Doug worked for the City of Kelowna for 30 years as their IT Manager. Family was very important to Doug. He was very involved with his children and their activities, including the Ogopogo Swim Club and Kelowna Minor Hockey. He also cared about his community. He was involved in several service organizations, including Kelowna Kinsmen, the Masonic Lodge and MISA BC, devoting his time and effort to supporting the mission of each organization at every level. He enjoyed snowboarding, golfing and taking trips on his motorcycle and, as his health decreased, his convertible. He was also a talented cook and, as his family and friends will attest, his culinary talents will be missed. Doug loved music and as a teenager in the late 60’s and early 70’s, he played bass in a band called The Satisfied Mind. His love of music was a life-long passion. His favorite band was the Beatles and, among his favorite songs was, “In My Life.”
Having grown up in Saskatchewan and after retirement Doug embraced the snowbird lifestyle, spending several winters in Southern California near his younger brother Colin. He moved into the Lexington two years ago, where he enjoyed making new friends and the people he met in the community. We will have a come and go celebration of Doug’s life at the Lexington Clubhouse, 650 Lexington Drive, Kelowna, BC on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm. Please park on Lexington Drive. Penny I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have so many great memories of all of us camping fishing, and basically growing up together. I believe Doug was 15 or 16 when we all met! He was a great guy and you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this very difficult time! Take care and know that I am here for you now and always! Hugs Bren
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Penny and your family. May you find comfort in all the great memories you shared with Doug. xoxo Dave & June
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of sadness and loss for you both. We didn’t know your brother Colin (brother-in-law for you Kendie), but it sounds like you had a lot in common. Wishing you happiness when you reflect on the fond memories of times spent with your brother.
Love, Gina, Adam, and Daena.
