We Remember

ANGLE, William “John” Nelson
November 1, 1935 — October 6, 2025
John Angle passed on October 6, 2025, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 89 years. Born November 1, 1935, to Peggy & Harry Angle; John was the only son of 4 children.
John was predeceased by his mother Margaret “Peggy” Gladys Nelson (née Mitchell) Angle; father H.H. “Harry” Angle, Brigadier General of the BC Dragoons; sisters Jane Steele and Jill Lennie; grandson Dillon Angle; and daughter-in-law Laureen Redman.
Greatly loved by his large extended family: his beloved wife Marion, his constant companion of 52 years; sister Jess Madsen; children Peter (Krista) Angle, Susan Angle, David (Allison) Angle, Robin (Brian) Bellis, Wendy (Dave) Coombs, and Jerry Redman (Karen Christiansen); grandchildren include Mikayla, Carson, James (Nikki), Andrew, Jamie, Cory, Kyle (Sarah), Laura, Rachel (Bronson), Lanny (Breann), Willa, and Emmett; and his great-grandchildren include Emma, Finnley, Brooke, Liam, Leon, Miles, Maci, and Baby Rosalie.
The Angle Family history runs deep in Kelowna, with John’s mother being born on their homestead – which is now Bertram Creek Park. It was so remote that the doctor attended her birth by boat. John’s father had moved to Kelowna when he was 16 years old in 1922, from Wiltshire, England, and became an orchardist. John himself was brought into this world by Dr Knox at Kelowna General Hospital.
John attended Vernon Preparatory School beginning at age 6 and graduated from Kelowna High School. By the time John was 15, his father had risen to the distinguished rank of Brigadier General of the BC Dragoons and was the first Canadian serviceman to die on a UN Peacekeeping duty in 1950.
Following his graduation, John travelled to New Zealand to work on his Uncle Douglas’s sheep station and worked for a company building ski chairlifts. He was there for 2 years. These years fuelled a lifelong passion for agriculture, skiing, and the great outdoors.
In the early 1960s, John was among the adventurous few that had the thrill of exploring and skiing Big White Mountain before it was developed.
His first marriage gave him three wonderful children: Peter, Susan, and David. John loved his children dearly and was always there for them.
In 1973, John met the love of his life, Marion Redman. She came as a package deal with her children Robin, Wendy, and Jerry.
John was a very successful entrepreneur throughout his life. He began with an orchard, then moved into the landscape business, real estate, and finished his working career at Trax Unlimited.
Throughout the years, John proudly represented the Angle family at the many events that honoured his family for their contributions to the community and his father’s military service.
As careers were winding down, 1986 brought the birth of their first grandchild. This gave rise to the name “Poppa”, the Redman children finally had a name for John that reflected their love for him. He was fondly referred to as Poppa by many family members.
John enjoyed the outdoors and was an amazing athlete. He loved skiing, water-skiing, boating, fishing, tennis, and woodworking.
John and Marion enjoyed a long and rich retirement together. He and Marion were a striking couple and were dearly admired by all who knew them. They maintained a cherished group of lifelong friends and enjoyed spending many wonderful years together of travel, fun and too many Sunday breakfasts to count.
John’s life was filled with love, laughter, and simple joys. His unexpected, witty humour was a delight to us all. He will be fondly remembered for his warm smile, his love of ice cream, children, animals, chocolate, cookies, and family.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, adventure, generosity, and family – a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
