We Remember
BANKS, Barbara
—
Barbara Banks passed away peacefully on Oct. 16, 2023, at the age of 94. She was married to Neil for 67 years until his passing in 2018.
Barbara was born in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan. She met the love of her life, Neil, while working in the administrative office of the Hudson’s Bay Co. department store in Penticton. Neil was a new management trainee with the store. They were both assigned to count inventory as a team, and the rest is history.
Barbara married Neil in 1951 after Neil rejoined the RCAF. They raised 4 children, moving around for 29 years while Neil served with the Cdn. Armed Forces.
Barbara and Neil retired to Kelowna from Ottawa in 1979 and enjoyed their retirement travelling, RVing, gardening, golfing and X-country skiing. Barbara was always quick with a smile and laugh and was a hit with all who met her, especially her grand and great-grandchildren. She had a way of making everyone she met feel special…
Barbara is lovingly remembered by her family: Bruce (Christine) of Mississauga; Dwayne (Nancy) of Georgetown; Deb (Jean) Joly of Jasper; and Cheryl (Leon) Lyszkiewicz of Calgary; and her 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A private family gathering will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank Hawthorn Park Retirement Residence & Hospice House for their care.

Moms are so special! My heart goes out to you! Soar high with the angels!!
We are very sad to hear of Barbara’s passing. Her and Neil were our first neighbours in Kelowna and they not only greeted us with warmth but set a daily example of how wonderful living beside two people could be. Always kind, generous and helpful to everyone around. They were great with our kids and always so thoughtful. When Neil passed and Barbara moved away to Hawthorn we were very sad to lose them. We will miss them both always. Condolences to the entire family. You are in our prayers.
My sincere sympathy to all of you . I can’t believe that my dear friend passed away….look in the eyes of your children and you will find Neil and Barbara there .Love Diane Edgelow
