To Sahadeo Family
Very sorry to hear of Sahadeo passing. Thinking of you all at this time
He was a great academic and teacher. Please accept our heartfelt from the Anthony Dwarika family.
Condolences to the family of a distinguished son of Trinidad and Tobago.
To the whole Basdeo family,
We want to extend our heartfelt sympathies to you all after the loss of your father/father-in-law/grandfather. His accomplishments were vast, but the ‘citizen of the world’ was most memorable for the special warmth he had about him. We are all better off for having had him on the planet these last 80 years.
Love Graham, Ana, & family
Dr Basdeo was a substantial and invaluable part of my Post Graduate Student life at the University Of the West Indies. He made a deep impression on my mind and concrete my understanding of many Philosophical concepts and the international political economy. Despite his distinguished reputation and the sea of respect which he earned, his approach to life and to the people he interacted with was pure humility. A cultured gentleman, a profound educator and a father figure to many, I salute the life of Dr Sahadeo Basdeo and pray for his blessed soul. Aum Sadgati. Aatma Shanti.
Heartfelt condolences to Deven, Vindira, Shriya and the rest of the family. May he rest peacefully.
Heartfelt condolences to the Basdeo brothers and their families. I remember working with Sahadeo and Beverley at UBC Okanagan with great fondness – together, they were a dynamic duo! Sahadeo was also always a consummate host with a unique sense of humor, and a committed academic with stellar personal anecdotes to share about his time in government. May he rest in peace.
Feeling so sad that my dear brother Sahadeo has left us, we spoke regularly and enjoyed such memorable times together, we will miss you and send condolences to the bereaved family..
The late Professor Basdeo and I were great friends. We both attended St. BENEDICT’S COLLEGE,, Lav Romaine, under the distinguished and brillant Dr. Dom. Basil. MATTHEWS, PROFESSOR Emeritus. Sahadeo was not only an exemplary senior student, while i was in the junior form, but also became my teacher at The Advanced Level, Sixth Form. He was an excellent teacher, warm, always helpful and very bright. He was an authority on
West Indian history, which he taught me at ‘A’ level. GCE . Later on, he became my Foreign Minister and had the honour and priviledge of working with him throughout his tenure as Foreign Minister. . He visited the Republics of Benin and Nigeria.. He advised the late A. NR Robinson to make an official visit to Nigeria.,where Prime Minister was honoured with an Honorary Doctorate From the University of Ife and the very prestigeous title, Chief of Chief Olokun Igbaro of Ife, and Mrs Robinson was Conferred with the title of, Ye Ye Olokun Igbaro of Ife, by His. Majesty Oba okunade, Sijuwade Olubusi 11, The Ooni of Ife. In retrospect, he strenghtened our relations with Africa and was one of the most successful Foreign Ministers. WELL DONE MY BROTHER!!
May you receive Moksha from the hands of Brahma and your soul rest in eternal peace.
Ram Nam Sathyia Hai! 🙏🙏🙏
Dr Basdeo was more than a scholar. He was a guardian of memory, a keeper of roots and a bridge between where we came from and who we are becoming. He stood firmly in reverence of history, understanding that a people without memory is a people without a compass. He was an absolutely wonderful individual. Rest in peace brother. You’ve done your time with great dignity.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Narin, Devon and Kristen, during this most difficult time. Uncle was the beacon of light in our lives. He paved the way for us all to follow in his path. May he rest in eternal peace 🙏

Condolences to the Basdeo family. From the Mongru family. My cousin was really an example for others to follow. We were very proud to say that he is my cousin. He called me nanny. I reminded him of his nanny. I guess because I was a bit on the dark side. 😅
He is gone but never forgotten. May God rest his soul
My prayers are with the entire family in your time of grief. Please accept condolences on behalf of my family.
So very sorry to hear of Professor Basdeo’s passing. I fondly remember his classes at OUC even tough it has been nearly 25 years. I am sure that Professor Basdeo’s passions will live on in his family and that his legacy will be truly lasting and consequential. My sincerest condolences to Kristen and the entire Basdeo family.
