We Remember

BRUIN, Martinus Petrus “Martin”

1938 – 2025

Martin Bruin passed away peacefully, in his 87th year, in Kamloops, BC on June 6, 2025, after a long battle with dementia. He was surrounded by his loving family and a beautiful mountain view with magpies singing him home. Martin was greeted by his parents, three brothers, two nephews, a niece and his grandson at Heaven’s doors. Although goodbyes are sad, we are comforted in the fact he is no longer suffering. He will forever be looking over his family: Marjorie; his four children, Lillian (Graham), Jim, Anne (Duncan), and Jeff (Nicole); his grandchildren, Bradley (Neha), Emily (Chris), Avery, Kail, Ewan, Gavin, and Eloise; his great-grandson, Leon; and his soon-to-be great-granddaughter.

Martin was born in Waarland, North Holland, Netherlands in 1938. He was the third eldest of 12 children. He immigrated alongside his family to the Niagara region, then Woodstock, Ontario, and in his later years, to BC. Martin’s life was not always easy; however, when he was well, he was known for his generosity to anyone in need. Martin had a gift for carpentry, designing and building custom homes, playing the harmonica, and training and raising homing pigeons. He loved sweets, fish and chips, drinking a good cup of coffee, and visiting with his buddies.

We would like to thank the wonderful caring and loving staff at both Brandt’s Creek Mews, in Kelowna, and Hillside Centre in Kamloops, for giving Martin comfort and care in his final year. A special thank you to his sister, Maria, and family friend, Mathilda, for visiting him, loving him unconditionally, and bringing him cookies.

A celebration of life will take place this summer in Woodstock, Ontario.
