We Remember

CHAPMAN, Barbara Doreen (née Vick)

May 18, 1932 — May 3, 2025

Barbara “Barb” Chapman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, at the age of 92.

Born on May 18, 1932, in St. Walburg, Saskatchewan, Barb was the youngest of nine children born to Harry and Lydian Vick. Barb is survived by her devoted husband of 71 years, Ken; her sister Ruth; her children Greg (Deb), Blair (Patty), Anna (Dave), and Colleen; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and generosity. She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings Bill, Hugh, Lloyd, Vicky, Fredrick, Jack, and Frank.

Barb’s early years on a Saskatchewan farm shaped a life filled with resilience, creativity, and joy. She fondly recounted riding horses to school and later teaching ten grades in a one-room schoolhouse. The Barbie and Ken love story began in those early years and blossomed into a lifetime partnership built on love, laughter, and shared adventures, including raising their four children together.

A woman of many talents, Barb was an accomplished artist, and her paintings and artwork now grace the homes of her loved ones. Music was another of her great joys. She sang beautifully and played the piano, organ, guitar, accordion, and omnichord. She had a special place in her heart for animals, was a keen curler alongside Ken and thoroughly enjoyed travelling to places like Mexico, Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, Hong Kong and China.

Barb will be remembered for her quick wit, her endearing smile, and her unwavering kindness. She brought happiness wherever she went and remained spirited and loving until the very end. To her family, she was not only a guiding light, but the very heart of their lives – truly the best mother and wife anyone could have asked for.

She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice.
