We Remember
CORBACH, Ingeborg
April 5, 1929 — March 14, 2026
With great love and joy comes great pain as well. It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved mother, Ingeborg Corbach. Inge was born in Belleben, Germany on April 5, 1929.
In a few short weeks we were looking forward to celebrating mom’s 97th birthday, and she had expressed some excitement at how she would celebrate her birthday and Easter on the same weekend.
Inge was predeceased by her husband, Henry, in 2012 and half-sister, Hilda, in 2013. She is survived and dearly missed by her children, Beate of Kelowna, BC, Ingrid of Kelowna, BC, and Bernie (Mandy) of Peachland, BC; grandchildren Rolfe (Leigha) of Dauphin, MB, Sonya (Brad) of Red Deer, AB, Alexander (Dana) of New Maryland, NB, Devin (Carlene) of Peachland, Mitchell of Peachland, and Dustin of North Vancouver, BC; great-grandchildren, Henry and Francine of Red Deer, AB; nephew Gary (Shelley) of Saskatoon, SK and niece Nancy of West Kelowna, BC; and other family in Germany. She is also fondly remembered by loved ones in England and Holland.
Inge was endearing to so many that she met, forming precious relationships throughout her lifetime – she had a way of making everyone feel special. In her early adult years Inge first worked on a farm for four years in Rümmer, Germany and then worked in Essen, Germany at a gasthaus. Here, she learned many new skills, making her the incredible cook and baker she became. She eagerly shared her recipes with others, but few could replicate them as she had a “magic touch.” The gasthaus was also where she first met Henry. He was so enamoured with her he came back to the gasthaus to exchange addresses with her just before he was about to catch a boat to go to Canada. They then corresponded with each other until he returned to Germany to marry her in 1955.
Inge, Henry, and her half-sister Hilda (whom Inge took guardianship of) immigrated to Canada that same year. The crossing on the Waterman from Rotterdam to Halifax, NS was rough. During their first years in Canada, she and Henry made many connections with the German community. Attending dances at the German Canadian Harmonie Club in both Regina, SK and later in Kelowna was a favourite activity. Their three children were born while living in Regina. In 1966, they settled in Winfield, BC where they farmed a fruit orchard until 1990, producing delicious fruit that they were so proud of. Inge also worked at the fruit packing house in Winfield for 25 years, where she met many friends and enjoyed lots of laughs at work.
In 2007, Inge and Henry moved to Springfield Manor in Kelowna to enjoy retirement after selling the orchard. Here they were closer to their Church family at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and were active members, enjoying fellowship and worship. Inge made new friends easily and enjoyed many social gatherings at her Kelowna home. After Henry’s passing in 2012, she lived here independently until September 2024, when she transitioned to Brookhaven Care Centre in West Kelowna.
While living at Brookhaven she received loving and compassionate care from the staff, made many new friends and considered Brookhaven her home.

I have such fond memories from 55 years ago when I was friends with Beate, of the wonderful marble cake Mrs. Corbach made. She definitely had a magic touch. I also remember the Corbachs’ kindness, having my mom and me come up to their orchard to gather windfall apples. Such a lovely family. My sincere condolences go out to Ingrid, Beate, Bernie and their families.
