We Remember
DION, Marguerite Marie Marthe (Margo)
February 24, 1936 — March 4, 2026
It is with great sadness that we are announcing the passing of Marguerite (Margo) Marie Marthe Dion. She will spend eternity with her Lord and Saviour. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Denis (Debbie) Dion, Claudine (George) Heiss, and Pierre Dion; her grandchildren, Everett Dion, Jyssica Heiss, and Gabrielle Heiss; and her great-granddaughter, Evalynn. She now joins her husband, Claude Dion and her siblings, Francoise, Raymond, Roger, Aurele, and Réal.
Her life was defined by her bubbly personality, her outgoing spirit, and her love for her family and God. She was the grounding force in her family, holding everything together in both good times and bad. She was famous for her infectious laughter, which has been passed down to all her children. Margo was a card shark (loved Bridge and Hearts), a master knitter, and an incredible chef, with her apple pies being legendary.
Margo was an exceptional woman, born in Notre Dame Du Nord, QC. As a young girl, she loved figure skating on the lake behind their house. She started her adult life as a housekeeper, but she wanted more and applied for a nursing apprenticeship with the nuns at the Ville Marie Hospital, where she became a fully certified Gardes-Malades (Nurse). She continued working in Quebec until Claude asked her to move to Vancouver, so he could continue his studies and where he had already found her a job. They were married and lived there until they moved to Rutland in the 1960s.
Once in Rutland, she and Claude were involved in Dion’s Grocery Store, eventually taking it over from Claude’s parents. Dion’s became synonymous with compassionate, hardworking, and strong family values, while still assisting those in the community who needed support. Whether it was groceries available via home delivery or on credit, Dion’s supported the community. They settled in the small community of Joe Rich, where they raised their family and were the driving force of development in the area. Their farm is still lovingly maintained by their son, Pierre.
Margo has become a legend of perseverance, stability, humour, and love.
Thank you, Mum, for being an extraordinary example of what an independent, driven, and compassionate woman should be. We are already missing you, but know you are whooping Grandpa’s ass in Hearts up there.
Memorial Donations in honour of Margo may be sent to Gospel Mission.
