We Remember

DUKE, Llewellyn John “Zook”

November 4, 1946 — April 9, 2025

Llewellyn John Duke, lovingly known as “Zook,” passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, at the age of 78. A generous man of humour, heart, and hands-on hard work, Zook was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his former spouse Barbara Bjorge; their children, Amber (Catherine) Duke, Daniel (Sherry) Duke, Bethany Duke, and Melissa (Michael) Clark; and was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Bjorge. Zook’s legacy lives on through his 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored deeply. As well, his cousin Wayne (Janice) Shanks, whom he cared for wholeheartedly.

Zook was a skilled tradesman who worked in several industries over his lifetime. He retired as the owner operator of DAMMB Plumbing, named after his children, a business that reflected his craftsmanship, strong work ethic, and love for his family. Outside of work, he found joy in baking—his cookies and pies were legendary among those who knew him. Zook enjoyed whittling, tinkering, attending flea markets, road trips and riding his motorcycle. Whether he was making a sweet treat or fixing something around the house, Zook enjoyed working with his hands and took pride in every task.

He was a generous man and was the first to offer support to his loved ones. He had a youthful spirit and an infectious sense of humour, often acting like a child just to get a laugh and bring joy to those around him. His love for animals, especially his pets, was matched only by his deep devotion to his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honour at a later date. There will be no formal funeral, as his family wishes to remember Zook in the joyful, lighthearted way he lived his life.

He will be missed dearly and remembered fondly—for his jokes, his pies, his big heart, and the love he gave so freely.
