We Remember

EMMOND, Cameron Robert Thomas
October 25, 1942 — March 20, 2025
Born on October 25, 1942, Cameron Emmond passed away on March 20, 2025.
A beloved husband, father and educator, Cam spent many years shaping young minds as a teacher and principal. He travelled with his new wife, Sandy, to the Northwest Territories in the 1960s to pursue that love of teaching. He and Sandy lived in Killiniq Island, Nunavut; Hay River, NWT; Tungsten, NWT; and Fort Simpson, NWT. They met their lifelong friends Ted and Ruby Barbor in Can Tung and had many adventures, enjoying all aspects of northern life.
As the Emmond clan expanded with daughters Leah, Simone and son Kieran, they decided to move south. They spent a few years in Grande Prairie, AB before moving to Penticton, BC. Cam began his first principalship at Kaleden Elementary before moving to Wiltse Elementary and Columbia Elementary School. He became known as an educator who could easily connect with kids and had unwavering patience and kindness for all who visited his office.
Another passion of Cam’s was camping. He and Sandy enjoyed camping in British Columbia and the Oregon coast, but after retirement, they explored further south. They spent many years escaping the winters of Canada in Yuma, Arizona, where they spent time with good friends and Cam’s sister and brother-in-law, Jim and Patti Hack. Cam also loved all kinds of music, which he enjoyed listening to with a nice glass of wine. Many family vacations were had that involved teaching his grandkids how to swim, great conversations, good food, late nights, music from all genres and great wines.
The last years of Cam’s life were spent in West Kelowna, BC, with Sandy and his beloved dog Ginger. His brother Shell was a frequent visitor during Cam’s final days in hospice.
Cam is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Emmond; his cherished children, Simone and Kieran; and his adored grandchildren, Colton, Kiefer, Avery, Jack, Shea, Katelynn, Breyanna, and Karina. He is predeceased by his daughter Leah, his parents, Gertie and Jack and brother-in-law Jim Hack.

Just heard about Cam and Keith and I want to send our heartfelt condolences to you, Sandy, Simone, Kieran and the whole family. I loved working with Cam at Wiltse and remember the many fun times we had on staff. He was a wonderful kind man with a great sense of humour. We also loved the many times we all got together as couples and shared so many laughs. Thinking of you all at this sad time. Love and hugs to all .💕
Cam gave me my first job teaching out in Kaleden. We hit it off immediately and I learned so much from him. He was a master at empowering students, supporting staff, and reassuring parents. He also had the best staff parties and fun student camping trips. I followed him around to three different schools and I always felt blessed with our working relationship. We lost touch after he retired, but he has always held a respected and fond place in my heart, and always will.
With condolences to Sandy and their family,
One of the many Kaleden Judys
We were so shocked to hear about Cams passing. Cam was my principal for many years, awesome years at Kaleden and Wiltse schools. We are deeply saddened to hear this and our hearts filled with wonderful memories of Cam go out to Sandy and the family. I would dearly love to hear from Sandy and touch base once again. Judy Slinn
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Cam. I send my love to Sandy and to the family. He was a great principal and a great friend. I will have so many wonderful memories to remember, sharing a class together, staff parties and having both Cam and Sandy helping me when it was needed. Hugs to all! Judi Muir
I am very sorry to hear of Cam’s passing. I was lightened a bit by reading of his life well lived, surrounded by the love ❤️ of so many family and friends. I send our family’s sincere condolences to you all. He was the principal at Kaleden when my children, Tamara and Joshua attended. They adored and admired him, as so many did. He was the most wonderful educator and the very best role model for the children of Kaleden. I was the PAC president then and he was a joy to work with, kind, fun, caring and always available. We missed him so very much when he moved on and the legacy Cam left is still felt in the halls of Kaleden Elementary! I know because I’ve recently returned to work there and I feel his presence when I look at all the photos and remember those amazing years! I’m sure he is now surrounded by heaven’s children.
Cam Emmond was my principal from K-7 at Kaleden Elementary. He also was one of my Grade 6 and 7 teachers. He was a wonderful educator who cared deeply for his students, staff and the community. I have so many fond memories of those years. Camping at Maple Springs. Science Fairs. Trips to Kaleden Beach. Sock Hops. Sports Day. I made friends for life and learned so much. Those years instilled in me a love of learning and I became a teacher as well. I am so saddened to hear of Mr. Emmond’s passing. I am sending love to his friends and family. Please know that your husband, father, grandfather and friend made a lasting impression on me and so many others. ♥️
