We Remember
EPP, Bertha May (née Cowper-Smith)
April 20, 1957 — February 5, 2026
Bertha May Epp (née Cowper-Smith) went to be with the Lord on February 5, 2026, at the age of 68. She will be lovingly remembered for her vibrant spirit, steadfast faith, and the deep care she showed to those around her.
She now goes to join her parents, Westmore and Maude Cowper-Smith, who passed before her.
Bertha was the sixth of ten children, born in Trail, British Columbia, into a family devoted to ministry. Her father was a pastor, and from a young age, Bertha’s life was rooted in faith. As her family moved throughout Western Canada — including Gladstone, Manitoba; Wainwright, Fort Saskatchewan, and Edmonton, Alberta; and Lloydminster, Alberta/Saskatchewan — Bertha carried with her a joyful and expressive spirit.
As a child, she loved to sing and dance and was full of life. Although school presented challenges and reading was difficult for her, Bertha’s creative gifts shone brightly. She had an extraordinary memory and a remarkable way with people, remembering names, birthdays, phone numbers, and personal details long after others might forget. She had a special ability to make people feel seen and valued.
Bertha’s faith was central to her life. She spoke openly and boldly about her relationship with Jesus and shared her testimony with honesty and courage, even through seasons of significant physical and mental hardship. In both light and darkness, she continued to share the love of Christ with those she met, often bringing comfort and hope to others.
Thirty-six years ago, Bertha made Kelowna her home to be closer to her sister Carolyn and family. She cherished her many nieces and nephews and took great joy in celebrating each of their birthdays, often marking the occasion with a thoughtful gift and a loving word.
Bertha was a devoted member of Living Faith Miracle Centre, a church community where she was deeply loved, accepted, and encouraged in her faith. She lived in community housing for many years before declining health led to her move to David Lloyd Jones. There, she received compassionate care from dedicated staff and formed meaningful friendships that enriched her later years.
Those who knew Bertha will remember her warmth, kindness, and her unwavering devotion to her faith and family. It brings comfort to know that she is now singing and dancing in heaven.
A Graveside Service will be held on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2026, AT 10:30 AM, located at KELOWNA MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY, 1991 Bernard Avenue, Kelowna, BC. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and honour Bertha’s life and memory.

Bertha was one of a kind and I was truly blessed to spend time with her. Angela
Going to miss our musical times in the tub room, styling your hair and picking out your jewelry to wear.
Bertha is a very special person. She was very giving and was always thinking of others and blessing them. We shared many conversations in our car rides together to church and many good laughs. Bertha had a heart of gold. The writeup of her life depicts her character very well. I also enjoy seeing a younger photo of Bertha. I did not know her then. Sorry, I was not at the memorial, I do not live in BC anymore. God’s peace to Bertha’s family.
