We Remember

FOMEY, Arthur

July 7, 1945 — February 6, 2026

Arthur Fomey was born on July 7, 1945, in Toronto, Ontario, to George and Louise Fomey, and grew up in the Greater Toronto Area (or as locals know it, the GTA). In Kelowna, BC, on February 6, 2026, at the age of 80, Arthur went peacefully to be with the Lord, surrounded by family, exactly where he would have wanted to be.

Arthur’s working life was steady, reliable, and quietly impressive. He began with CN Rail, where he spent seven years, before moving on to Canada Post. There, over more than three decades, he became the sort of person who showed up, did the job properly, and earned respect without ever asking for it. He retired knowing he had done honest work and done it well.

In 1983, Arthur moved west to Vancouver, British Columbia, a decision that would shape the rest of his life. In 1986, he met Nida, the love of his life. They married on October 24, 1987, beginning a partnership that lasted 38 years and was built on devotion, laughter, and mutual understanding. Together, they welcomed two sons and built a family.

In 1990, Arthur and Nida moved their young family to Kelowna, British Columbia. Arthur fell in love with the Okanagan Valley and made it his home for the remainder of his life.

Arthur had a genuine passion for sports and movies, and was always happy to talk about either. In truth, he was happy to talk about almost anything. He had a gift for conversation and could strike up a friendly exchange with anyone, anywhere. His sense of humour was easy and generous, and he valued a good laugh, especially when shared with family and friends.

Above all else, Arthur was a dedicated family man who loved deeply and showed it daily, in ways both big and small.

Arthur is survived by his beloved wife, Nida, and his sons Mark and Matthew (Katie). He will also be remembered by many cherished family members, including his nieces, Wendy (Gerald) Feschuk and Julianna (Franco) Ventrone; nephews, Raymond (Larisa) Trauzzi, Matthew (Sandra) Trauzzi, and Jay Trauzzi, as well as his longtime childhood friend of over 70 years Eugene (Helena) Rakchaev. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Louise Fomey; his sister Isabel Trauzzi and her husband John; and his sister Freda Bachewich and her husband Ed.
