We Remember
GEREIN, Eva
December 22, 1925 — April 25, 2025
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Nana, great-grandmother, Eva Gerein. At the grand age of 99, Eva passed away at the Kelowna General Hospital in BC, on April 25, 2025, with her loving family by her side.
Born December 22, 1925 in Killaly, Saskatchewan to Andrew and Margaret Runzer, the 9th of 10 children. The family moved to Kelowna in 1936. Eva met Jack J Gerein while working at Tilly’s Grill in downtown Kelowna. They married in 1951 and had 3 children together: Donald, Karen, and Tim. In her younger years, Eva worked packing apples at Mac & Fitzpatrick Packing House, a job she loved. Later, she focused on raising her family and working on the family orchard. Our mom enjoyed playing softball, curling, and was an avid bowler – bowling till 82 years old! She loved her family, cooking and baking, and hosting family celebrations.
We take some comfort in knowing Eva and her husband Jack are reunited after his passing in 2002, as well as with her son Donald, who passed in 2020. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Karen (Don) and Tim; grandchildren: Nathan (Jesse), Curtis, Katie, Dylan, Anthony (Ashley), Julian, and Marci (Josh); great-grandchildren: Charlotte and Olivia. She will also be remembered by her niece Marilyn Jones, with whom she had a special connection.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff on 4 West at Kelowna General Hospital and her “little angel”, Karly, for the care of our mother.
At Eva’s request, there will be no service.
Rest in Peace, Nana. We will miss you.

I am so sorry to hear about Auntie’s passing. She was one of my favorite aunties, always quick to smile, very sweet and kind. I loved listening to her and Auntie Liz’s stories about the old family house where they shared a bedroom. Those two had lots of giggles about it. Your mom will be missed.
