We Remember

JOHNSON, Anida Lynda Zara

August 27, 1963 — June 25, 2025

On June 25, 2025, with her family close by, Anida Johnson passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord while at the Central Okanagan Hospice House. She was 61.

Anida was born in Vernon Jubilee Hospital and grew up in the wide, open heart of Spallumcheen, BC; a pastoral valley known for its fertile farmland and close-knit community. She attended school in Armstrong, where the rhythm of rural life shaped her grounded and sincere character.

In 1983, she married her soul mate, Mark Johnson. The two shared 42 years of marriage, first rooted in the Okanagan and later branching out to adventures that spanned the globe. Together, they lived in Vernon, the Coast, Kamloops, and finally Kelowna, where they became the proud owners of the Glenmore and Spall Tim Hortons locations. There, Anida served up coffee and friendliness in equal measure; always offering a warm smile alongside every cup.

After retiring in 2017, Anida and Mark embraced their passion for travel. Over the next eight years, they explored more than 30 countries, from the winding alleys of European cities to the bustling streets of Tokyo and the vibrant markets of Vietnam and Cambodia. They immersed themselves in local cultures and cuisines, always curious, always adventurous.

Anida was the sort of woman who turned everyday moments into something memorable. She adored flowers, music, decor, and foods from around the world. Her fashion sense was impeccable; not flashy, but full of personality and polish. Her laugh had a sparkle to it, and her smile had a way of disarming even the grumpiest soul.

To those who knew her, Anida was a gentle force. She was genuine, loyal, and radiant and many people commented on how she had an influential impact on their lives. She didn’t seek the spotlight, yet her presence lit up every room. She loved deeply and without reservation, treasuring time spent with friends and family above all.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Mark; sister-in-law Charmaine and brother-in-law Redgie Heichert; nieces and nephews Tina and Rick Lutgen, Sherrie and Darcy MacPhee, Braydon, Jesslyn, Caleb and Kolby Lutgen, Courtney Lutgen, and Sarina MacPhee, as well as cousins Eugene Kozkuf and William Forester.   She also leaves behind extended family in the Vetter/Salt families, and many friends whom she loved as family.

Anida was predeceased by her parents, John and Anna Kostyshyn, and her parents-in-law, Gunnar and Norma Johnson.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dr Finch, Dr Butler, and the dedicated staff at Kelowna General Hospital, as well as Craig and Matt at Glenmore Pharmasave, whose care, compassion, and expertise made a difficult journey more bearable.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BC Cancer or to the Mark & Anida Helping Hand Fund.
