We Remember

KEEPING, Donald Richard

July 2, 1956 — January 5, 2026

Donald Richard Keeping, born July 2, 1956, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at the Central Okanagan Hospice House in Kelowna, British Columbia.
Don was born on Vancouver Island and spent the majority of his life there, ultimately choosing Nanaimo as his long-time home. In the later years of his life, he moved to Kelowna to be closer to family and to embrace a fresh start as he approached retirement, looking forward to exploring all that the Okanagan had to offer.

Throughout his life, Don was fortunate to experience much of the world. He walked among Italy’s ancient stones, felt the dust of South Africa, admired the light of Greece, and visited many other memorable places. Closer to home, his career in the logging industry allowed him to witness some of the most breathtaking beaches, mountains, and forests across British Columbia—landscapes he deeply appreciated.

Don lived a quiet and peaceful life, valuing time spent with family, friends, and the simple things that brought him joy. Though often reserved, he was always willing to lend a hand and was known for his generosity and selflessness—truly the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back. In his younger years, Don enjoyed many hobbies and passions. While declining health limited his ability to pursue them later in life, his woodworking and other projects live on and will be cherished by his children and family for years to come.

Don was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Keeping (July 1960 – August 2012). He is lovingly remembered by his children: Derek (Samantha), Danielle (Albert), and Ann-alise (Mary Grace); as well as his siblings Leanne, Gail, Dianne, and Ron.

A memorial service to honour Don’s life will be held at a later date.

Memorial Donations in memory of Donald may be sent to BC Cancer – Kelowna – Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre for the Southern Interior and Hospice House Kelowna (Central Okanagan Hospice House).
