We Remember

LISCHYNSKI, Vera Elizabeth

December 30, 1927 — April 27, 2025

Vera Lischynski passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 97.

Born on December 30, 1927, in Manitoba, Vera lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and a love that touched everyone. Her smile could cheer anyone up, and she shared it freely with friends, family, and strangers alike. Everyone who met her loved her and her infectious smile.

Vera married the love of her life, Joseph Lischynski, when she was 21 years old. They lived in Winnipeg for most of their married life and their marriage was a true partnership, filled with devotion and warmth, lasting until Joseph’s passing in 2005. Together, they raised their family and built a lifetime of memories.

In 1988, Vera and Joe made the move from Manitoba to British Columbia, where they embraced the beauty of Kelowna, especially its fruit trees and gardens. She had a special gift for nurturing life — whether it was her flourishing garden or motherhood. Vera loved spending time with her family, playing rummy tile, cards, and bingo, and never missed a chance to share laughter and a plate of her homemade perogies. In her earlier days, she thouroughly enjoyed curling and lawn bowling.

Vera lives on through her children, Deborah Bircham and Joe (Bernie) Lischynski; her grandchildren Brett Bircham, Brooke Wyatt, Kelly Wahl, Jamie McDonald, Christopher Wahl, Maegan Ginter, Michael Porco, Jennifer Porco, Brittaney Lischynski, and Andrew Lischynski; and her great-grandchildren, Jessie, Evie, Lila, Amelia, and Colton. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and best friend Norma Lyndon, and her dear friend Mel Baillie.  Since living in Kelowna, she also thoroughly enjoyed all the visits and support from her nieces Deanna, Joyce (Wayne) and Karen (Randy),

She was sadly predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph, and by her daughters Shirley Wahl and Beverly LaFrance. Her brothers Taras and Ray also sadly predeceased her many years ago.

Vera’s spirit, her kindness, and her warmth will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.

A Celebration of Life to honour Vera will be held at a later date.
