We Remember

LITKE, Kevin “Kevie”

March 30, 1974 — April 7, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin Litke, affectionately known as “Kevie,” on April 7, 2025, at Kelowna General Hospital (KGH), at the age of 51. He is survived by his devoted parents, Siegfried and Marianne Litke; his sister, Nicole (Niki); as well as extended family in Germany and many cherished friends and chosen family members who were touched by his presence.

Kevin was born on March 30, 1974, in Kelowna, BC, at the same hospital where he would later spend his final days. Growing up in Rutland with his family, in a neighbourhood filled with kids to play with, was where he made his first lifelong friends.

From a young age, Kevin’s natural athleticism stood out. Whether on the court, the field, or in friendly competitions, his passion for sports was undeniable. He passed that enthusiasm along to his little sister, teaching her everything he knew. Sport, combined with an active mind, earned him awards like Top Student Athlete in school.

After high school, Kevin attended Okanagan College, where he pursued the Chef program, furthering his love of creativity and striving for precision in the kitchen. His next step was working at Lake Okanagan Resort under Chef Ryan from whom he learned so much. Kevin’s work life included many kitchens throughout the Kelowna area, to each of which he brought an attitude of getting things done right, and always looking for opportunities to improve.

Having a generous heart, sharp wit, and deep curiosity led Kevin to making forever friendships from work and from his many interests. He especially loved basketball, Michael Jordan, and golf, and he never missed a UFC match. Kevin also had a deep appreciation for cars, and was a member of the Kelowna Lowriders Club. He was an experienced traveller, making many trips to Europe from a young age. Later trips to warm, tropical locales sparked a dream of eventual retirement to Belize.

At home, he had a garden that was his pride and joy, which he kept thriving. A passionate collector with a keen eye for value and a good deal, Kevin had an impressive array of Hot Wheels, gaming systems, electronics and music—each item a reflection of his interests and nostalgia.

The strong and lasting friendships he made during his lifetime surrounded him with a steadfast chosen family who loved and appreciated his unique spirit, insight, and his honesty. Whether chosen or blood family, Kevin’s resolute optimism in the face of adversity during his illness affected everyone in his orbit. Kevin will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the joy, laughter, and love he brought into the lives of everyone around him.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the compassionate team at Kelowna General Hospital, and to all friends and family who stood by Kevin during his illness. Your support has meant more than words can express.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 9th at 1:00 PM at the German Canadian Harmonie Club (1696 Cary Road, Kelowna, BC). The venue is indoors, air-conditioned, and fully accessible. All who knew Kevin are welcome to attend and share in remembering his vibrant life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Concussion Legacy Foundation Canada.
