We Remember

MARSHINEW, Richard Wayne “Rick”
May 14, 1953 — July 20, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Wayne Marshinew, who left us on July 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of strength, dedication, and unwavering devotion to his family. Rick was born in Vegreville, Alberta, on May 14, 1953, to Bill and Sally Marshinew.
Rick was a beloved husband to Val, who he lovingly referred to as “Doll”, and he could be heard saying “Hi ya, Doll”, “Good Morning, Doll”, “Where you going, Doll?”, almost any time of day. Rick was her North Star in the roller coaster of married life, and he could always be counted on to “save the day” when things got off track.
He was a proud and devoted dad to his daughter Jayme (Troy) McNeice, and affectionately referred to her as “Dolly”. Rick often said that she could light up any room with her beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes. Rick was her rock, her encourager, sounding board, advice giver, and greatest supporter in all she did. Jayme was truly his joy.
Rick loved the road trips to Maple Ridge in the earlier days, and to Vancouver Island and the Comox Valley in later years, to spend time with their grandchildren, Connor and Kallia. Rick was their biggest fan in all they did. He cheered enthusiastically at their hockey games, in Kallia’s volleyball and basketball tournaments and lacrosse games. Time spent with Connor building Lego masterpieces at Christmas and in the summer, golfing, made their bond close and brought lasting happy memories for us all.
Rick always enjoyed boating on the Fraser River with his son-in-law, Troy, where he caught his first big sturgeon — thanks to Troy, and they both looked forward to a generous shot of Crown Royal at the end of the day.
Rick also leaves behind brothers Gerry (Julie) Marshinew and Doug (Arlene) Marshinew; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Sally Marshinew and sister Dianna Kennedy, whose memories he carried with him always.
Rick was a career man through and through, dedicating 40 years of service to the RCMP. This was a career that reflected his strong sense of duty, integrity, and commitment to the many communities where he met many great people that became lifelong friends. Throughout his time with the RCMP, he earned the respect of colleagues and the trust of those he served. Rick carried himself with a strong ethic and unwavering loyalty in his work. He was always “at the ready” to help anyone who asked, and he left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Though Rick is no longer with us, the love and values shared by those who knew him will be in our hearts forever. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
We hope he is out playing the best round of golf he’s ever had — clear skies, perfect greens, and every shot straight down the fairway!
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Rick’s memory may do so by a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation. The family asks you to honour him by spending time with those you love and to enjoy every moment together.
A Memorial Service will be held to honour Rick on SATURDAY, AUGUST 2, 2025, at 1:00 PM, located at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020, Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.
