We Remember
MATZNER, Garry Leo
October 14, 1951 — December 20, 2025
The family of Garry Leo Matzner are saddened to announce his passing on December 20, 2025, at the age of 74, after a long health battle.
Garry is lovingly remembered by his beloved spouse of 22 years, Valerie Kinney; step-children Robin Kinney and Jeremy Rowley; step-grandchildren Avery and Adriana Nelson; step-mother Alayne Matzner; sister Priscilla; and brother Michael Matzner.
He now goes to join those who passed before him, including his parents Leo and Grace, and sister Fay Jansen.
Garry was born on October 14, 1951, in Abbotsford, British Columbia, and from an early age he was happiest when working with his hands. He learned the trade of dry walling alongside his father, joining the family business and dedicating his entire career to it. Garry took great pride in his work, building not only walls and ceilings, but a life rooted in skill, reliability, and hard-earned experience.
Outside of work, Garry found his greatest peace in his garden, which was truly his happy place. Tending to plants and watching things grow brought him deep contentment. Above all else, Garry adored being a grandpa—nothing brought him more joy or pride.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Garry’s home care team, whose compassion and support made it possible for him to remain at home during the most challenging times of his health journey.
Garry will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Family and friends will each honour him in their own ways. No formal service will be held.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Centre for Lung Health, in Garry’s honour.
