We Remember

McCARTHY, Patricia Arlene
March 4, 1944 — May 3, 2025
Born to Lionel and Ruth McCarthy on March 4, 1944, Patricia “Trish” spent her early days with her other 5 siblings learning the ins and outs of farm life. Trish attended high school at both George Elliott and Rutland High School, where she spent countless hours with friends and close cousins. After high school she moved north to advance her career, and this is where she settled with her husband to start a family: David, and soon after Deborah “Debbie” were born. Work took their family to Vancouver Island where they built their first home and settled in the quaint town of Sooke; a few years later came the youngest son, Jonathon “Jon”. Longing to be closer to family, she came full circle and re-located back to Winfield, BC, where she settled on property left to her by her father Lionel. Tragically, Trish mourned the passing of her daughter (and soul mate) Debbie in the fall of 1985, which left a large hole in her life. She persevered as most strong women do, and enjoyed her role as mother, grandmother, auntie, and enjoyed hobbies such as farming and raising horses, her true passion in her later years.
Trish lost her battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease on Saturday, May 3, 2025. All those close to Trish are comforted by her passing in a most peaceful way, with loved ones by her side. Trish is resting with the angels who have been our guiding light, and blessed are her children who have had an amazing mother and role model to nurture them, and guide them on their own path.
Mom, you will be missed in so many ways, but your voice and your zest for music will sing on for us to hear.
Trish is survived by her brother Errol (Carol); sisters Cathy and Lee; son David (Marilia), grandson Nathanial (Melissa) – great-grandchildren Ethan and Isabelle – and grandson Garath; son Jon (Tanya) and grandchildren Justin (who passed in infancy in 2005), Aaron, and Lauren; and her many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who have gone above and beyond to provide exceptional care for Trish during her difficult journey; you are angels in your own right, and we have been blessed by your compassion, your support, your kindness. We can’t thank you enough.
