We Remember

MOE, Barry Lee

November 1, 1953 — March 20, 2026

Barry Lee Moe passed away unexpectedly on March 20, 2026, at his home in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 72.

Born and raised in the Okanagan, in Enderby, BC, on November 1, 1953, to the late Clary and Eva (née Riess) Moe, Barry was a lifelong Interior BC resident.

A man of quiet integrity, Barry lived by a simple code: show up when you say you will, keep your word, and do the work well. For years, he channelled that dedication into a career as an autobody mechanic with a specialty that set him apart: restoring and refinishing aircraft. It was precise, demanding work, and he loved it.

Outside of work, Barry moved through the world gently. A fan of Bob Ross, he picked up a brush himself, finding something meditative in the act of painting. He kept steady rhythm when he played, and had a quiet wit that surfaced when you least expected it. Barry enjoyed the water, whether floating down a river, casting a fishing line into the water, or paddling out in a kayak. He also enjoyed coaxing an RC helicopter into the air with the focused delight of someone who never lost his sense of play.

Barry was private (stoic, even) but the natural world seemed to sense something in him that words couldn’t quite reach. Animals were drawn to him without explanation, and he responded in kind, faithfully feeding the birds and squirrels that found their way to him.

He is survived by his children David (Bunnie) and Andrea; his grandchildren Lavinia (Aaron), Drake (Avory), Ash, Alistair, and Anna-Lea; and the mother of his children and former wife, Gay; as well as his sister, Vivian. He was predeceased by his brother, Carl.

In lieu of a service, there will be a memorial float this summer down the Shuswap river in Enderby, followed by a potluck in the park. For anyone interested in joining us, email David at thedavidmoe@gmail.com.
