We Remember
PFLIGER, Helen Mary (née Gregorvich)
December 2, 1927 — November 7, 2025
Helen Mary (née Gregorvich) Pfliger passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on November 7, 2025, at the age of 97.
She was born on December 2, 1927, in Limerick, Saskatchewan, where she began a long and fulfilling life rooted in love, faith, and family. In 1939, Helen and her family moved to Kelowna, British Columbia, where she built a lifetime of friendships and deep community connections.
In 1947, Helen married her beloved husband, Cecil Frank Pfliger, with whom she shared many wonderful years and countless cherished memories.
Helen was the devoted mother of Geri Colbourne, Reverend Wayne Pfliger, David (Jennifer) Pfliger, Joanne (Dick) Van Nostrand, and Carol (Rick) Baker; proud grandmother of KrIstal Colbourne, Kelly Colbourne, Rebecca Pfliger, Michael Pfliger, Genevieve Pfliger, Benjamin Van Nostrand, Matthew Van Nostrand, Angela Van Nostrand, Cory Baker, and Jody Baker; and adoring great-grandmother to fourteen great-grandchildren.
Her family was her greatest joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Helen was especially proud of her son, Reverend Wayne Pfliger, whose calling to the priesthood was a source of great joy and a reflection of the deep faith that guided her throughout her life.
Helen lived a life filled with faith, generosity, and purpose. She loved gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and was a Master Bridge Player. She enjoyed both in-town and out-of-town bridge tournaments, and took great delight in getting her grandchildren to help by caddying for them. She also loved playing bridge with family and friends at their homes or wherever they could gather — always bringing laughter, warmth, and a touch of friendly competition to the table.
She loved spending time with her extended family and enjoyed many visits and helping at the Sheepskin Shop, where laughter and conversation were always abundant. Helen shared a special lifelong closeness with her sister, Anne Pilon; the two always lived near each other and remained constant companions and support for one another throughout their lives.
She was a devoted member of her parish and the Catholic Women’s League (CWL), where she served faithfully for many years. Helen catered banquets, funeral lunches, and parish events, and diligently kept the CWL books. She also volunteered at Kelowna General Hospital, always offering a helping hand where it was needed most.
A talented homemaker, Helen loved crocheting, baking, and cooking, sharing her warmth and creativity with everyone around her. She especially cherished hosting family dinners and gatherings, where laughter, stories, and delicious meals brought everyone together — moments that became some of her family’s most treasured memories.
She will be deeply missed by her five children; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; her sister Anne Pilon; and her sister-in-law Kaye Schneider; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who loved her dearly.
Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 33 years, Cecil Pfliger; parents Joseph and Anna Gregorvich; and siblings Joe Gregory, Mary Pfliger, Al Hurley, and Johnny Gregory.
Helen will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and the warmth she shared with everyone who knew her. Her legacy of love will continue to live on through her family and all whose lives she touched.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1346 Gordon Drive, Kelowna, BC. with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the Mass, and a luncheon will be held afterward at St. Pius X Catholic Church to celebrate Helen’s life and the love she shared with all. For those unable to join the family in person for the service, a livestream provided by the church will be available.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the KGH Foundation or the St. Pius X Catholic Women’s League (CWL), causes that were close to Helen’s heart.

RIP Aunt Helen. You will be missed. You were such an amazing woman.
Carol and Jody & family, I’m so sorry to hear about your grandmother’s passing. I can only imagine how hard this must be for you and your family right now. She was such a strong and loving presence in your lives. Sending you both love, comfort, and strength as you move through this time. Please know I’m thinking of you. 💛
With love,
Kayla
To all of my cousins and extended family,
Aunt Helen was one of the most amazing people I have ever known. She was kind, caring, sweet and always there to help. As a little kid I loved running down the street to her house, where I was almost always greeted with a chocolate chip cookie. And then there are the “Aunt Helen buns” I am so grateful to think of her each time I bake them. She was an amazing lady and will be missed by all who knew her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all ❤️
On behalf of mom, Kaye Schneider, and our family, we offer our deepest condolences. Mom will miss her visits up stairs with Helen. She was such a wonderful aunt. Will miss her smile and laughter.
Dear Father Wayne, please accept our deepest condolences. You married Maggie and I on October 28, 2015, and we have missed you at Our Lady of Lourdes church since you retired. From the obituary, we can see that you got your wonderful sense of humor from your mother. May she rest in peace after such a long and busy life.
