We Remember

PURLL, Sheila

Sheila Purll, born in England, passed away in Lake Country, British Columbia, on March 31, 2026, at the age of 93.

As a young schoolgirl, Sheila lived through the uncertainty and hardship of the Battle of Britain—an experience that would quietly shape her resilience and steady strength throughout her life.

A talented seamstress, Sheila carried a lifelong gift for working with her hands. In the late 1960s, she and her husband, Alan Purll—her partner of more than 71 years—immigrated to Ontario, Canada, bringing with them all their worldly possessions packed into a sea-can and a determination to build a new life. Together, they built their own home on a small acreage while raising their young family.

Sheila found great joy in working as a preschool and nursery school teacher, where her natural warmth and love for children made her a cherished educator. Over the years, she followed Alan across the country as his career as an architect took them from place to place, eventually settling in Kelowna in 1981. Along the way, they left behind a legacy of beautifully designed custom homes and lasting friendships.

Sheila is survived by her husband Alan, their 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
