We Remember

RADKE, Myrtle Frances (née Cullen)

November 30, 1921 — November 3, 2025

Our delightful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Mel; infant granddaughter Jenny; dear grandson David; son-in-law/co-conspirator Doug; sister Dolly and brother Delmar.

Myrtle was born in Sault Ste Marie, ON and grew up experiencing a happy, active childhood. She met and married in 1942, handsome Mel, and they had 4 children: Bruce (Judy), Barbara (Doug (decd.)) Cochrane, Patricia (Keith) Solomon, and Jim (Melissa).

While creating a cheerful home, Mom also was involved in community, making the world a better place wherever she and Dad lived.

In 1978, they moved to Kelowna and Mom got to work, using the RN she earned in her late 40’s. She was instrumental in establishing Child Find BC, the Westside Health Network and Kelowna Hospice. She was a lifelong learner and poured her remarkable energy into all she did to help others. Myrtle’s motto was ‘I choose joy’ and she showed up every day with that sense of gratitude.

Myrtle’s faith was the bedrock upon which she lived. And, she showed it every day, never in judgment nor by preaching, but through her generosity, caring and engaging love.

Myrtle is survived by her brother Jack (Valla); her 4 children; 9 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren – All of whom will miss her dearly.

A heartfelt thanks to Lakeshore Place and Lakeview Lodge for their wonderful care of our Myrtle. They are proof that there are angels among us.

  • Ivy Thomas says:

I’ve been thinking about sweet Myrtle a lot the past couple of weeks, so I’m not surprised to see she has
finally been released from her earthly home. She will always hold a special place in my heart. Indeed, she was “blessed to be a blessing” and lived out that calling to the max! She has left a legacy of care, compassion and laughter. Peace to her. Blessings of love and comfort to each and all of you.
