We Remember

RITCHEY, Elva May

February 1, 1939 — May 27, 2025

With heartfelt sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Elva May Ritchey on May 27, 2025, in Kelowna, British Columbia, at the age of 86.

Born in Vancouver, BC on February 1, 1939, Elva spent most of her life in Vernon, BC, where she built a life rooted in compassion, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years, “Bud” Allan Ritchey, in 2007. Elva is lovingly remembered by her sister, Betty Frost; her children, Susan (Andy) Phillips, Carey Ritchey, and Robin (Luis) Calao; her grandchildren, Samantha, Brad, Michelle, Steven, Christopher, and Tiana; and her great-grandson, Donovan.

Elva dedicated her professional life to caring for others as a psychiatric nurse. Her compassion extended far beyond her work; she was a lifelong volunteer who gave generously to her community. She devoted countless hours to the Girl Guides of Canada, the Vernon Figure Skating Club, baby clinics in Vernon and Nakusp, and the Nakusp Legion. For more than 25 years, she proudly supported the Canadian Cancer Society in both communities.

Elva found joy in life’s quiet moments. She was an avid gardener, a kind neighbour, and a familiar, friendly face through her many years as an Avon representative and Collector. Known for her warmth, grace, and gentle spirit, Elva lived a life of kindness, service, and love, always giving more than she received.

She leaves behind a family who loved her and a legacy of care that touched many lives. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Special thanks to the wonderful Team at the Village at Smith Creek in West Kelowna, who kindly cared for Elva in her final years.

A private family service will be held to honour Elva’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity meaningful to you.
