We Remember

RUSSELLE, David

It is with great sadness that we announce Dave took his last breath on August 28, 2023, at the young age of 66 years. He had a short and intense battle with cancer – unfortunately, a battle even Dave couldn’t win.

Dave was an avid and able sportsman – he loved sailing, hunting, golf, curling, swimming, hiking and snowshoeing. He was happy to beat anyone willing to take him on at Scrabble. Dave and Monica enjoyed travel; they visited Mexico several times, Dubai, Hong Kong, Thailand, Italy, New Zealand, and the UK.

Dave maintained close friendships with several childhood buddies, a testament to the importance these individuals held in his life. You know who you are. He loved to share cringe-worthy stories of his escapades growing up. Quiet and unassuming though he appeared, Dave enjoyed getting a laugh when he had an audience.

Dave worked for 50 years as a plasterer, the last 26 as a business owner. He mentored many young people in the trade over the years. He maintained a valued and loyal customer base, and weathered the storms of the economy as calmly as he did the storms on race night.

After suffering a stroke in early August, Dave left the hospital to carry on his life at home. He passed peacefully, with Monica at his side. Much deserved gratitude goes to the team of Palliative Care nurses, and his family doctor, whose care and support was invaluable.

Dave is survived by his spouse of 26 years, Monica, and three step-children; Stephanie Young (Kadie Riverin), Derek Eaton, and Katie Hadwin (Chris). He was also very proud of his four grandchildren, Harrison and Griffin Young, and Addison and Ellie Hadwin. He loved them very much.

Dave is survived by his father Jack Russelle, of Peterborough, and sister, Cathy Russelle (Kathy Smith) of Covington, Georgia. He was predeceased by his mother Mary (2010) and brother, Johnny (1979).  Dave had many aunts, uncles and cousins…too numerous to list.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Kelowna Yacht Club on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 6:00 pm. Dave’s step-daughter Stephanie will be mistress of ceremonies.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kelowna Cancer Clinic.

  • Frank Crowley says:

Monika, Cathy and families, please know that our condolences are with you. Although I didn’t get to see Dave much over the last decades, he still provided good memories and brought smiles to my face along with his many childhood friends. It was great getting together with him a few years back to share some of those memories and that beaming smile.
    Our thoughts are with you.

  • Gail Crowley Newman says:

My condolences to Monica and family, and Cathy and family, and Jack. The Russell’s were neighbours on McDonnel Street, I worked with Mary at BNS, and my brothers were long-time friends of Dave. Many years ago myself (my car) and Dave and 2 other friends of my brothers did a straight-thru January drive from Peterborough to Edmonton – that was the last time I saw Dave. But my brothers kept me updated on his life and his visits back home. I am so sorry – I wish you all had more time with him. Hold onto all the good memories.

  • Lisa Russelle Lytle says:

Uncle Jack, Cathy, Monica and families our thoughts and prayers are with you all in this very sad time. Sending loving,
